vz58 6.5 grendel anyone?

wow i had no idea someone would ressurect this thread
So the update is that i have since removed the 6.5 barrel to upgrade to a better quality blank since the original used a take-off surplus barrel.

also need to install a bushing and firing pin spring to prevent slam firing due to soft small rifle primers vs hard military 7.62x39 which this gun was designed for.

Then when that is sorted i must turn my attention to the mag follower for some tweaking as i had the odd issue when loading a full 5 rounds on a closed bolt.

I will post any updates as they happen and try to keep you hungry vz'ers happy

The "wood" looks awefully dark in the first two pics, is that a camera or editing effect or did you treat it somehow?

Has anyone ever just necked the m43 case to take the 6.5 so that all you need to do is get a custom barrel? That ought to be ballistically identical to the grendal, yet be much easier to implement.

i have run some 7.62x39 brass casings through my grendel dies with mixed results.
I can also say that case capacity isnt the same as the grendel is minimal taper with a sharper shoulder angle.
then there is the fact that you need another reamer for 6.5x39 keeping in mind that if you are gonna neck down 39 ammo the neck thickness may make for a tight fit unless your reamer is designed with this in mind. you could neck turn the brass but who wants to do that in a hunting gun.

I took a grendel reamer print and redesinged certain specs to increase the accuracy potential with a no-turn tight neck. Then had Dave Kiff grind it up for me. So my reamer is custom but factory rounds and brass still fit flawlessly
