Vz58/CZ858 .22LR rimfire conversion

some one mentioned in the other thread the price is $600!? I hope that isn't true....

Since the barrel sleeve installs from the muzzle (and needs to screw onto the thread at the tip), my money says that CZ-858 owners are crap out of luck. This kit is more than likely only designed to fit the Vz-58 in 7.62x39 (short military-style barrel version). :(

On another note, watching this gave me another simple yet ingenious idea that almost anyone with a lathe and a spare .22LR barrel could accomplish: a 'single shot' barrel sleeve for the Vz-58/CZ-858 that would use the existing bolt/mechanism, except that there would be no extraction of empty casings (and no automatic reloading either, of course). All that the sleeve would need is for the bore to be off center, kind of like a sub-caliber adapter, so that the centerfire firing pin could hit the rim of the .22LR.

(example of a 12GA sub-caliber adapter with off center bore)

I don't have a lathe, so I can't make this idea a reality. The best thing about a single-shot sub-caliber barrel sleeve is that it could be manufactured for very cheap... probably out of standard 10/22 barrels and some lathe time, lol!

It would make for a great survival tool to take along on hunting trips with some .22LR ammo (one rifle, two calibers, multiple uses).

I inquired about the conversion kit and got this response:

thank you for your question. Actually we are able to ship only within the Czech republic, However we are trying to get in touch with world-wide resellers. We are in touch with Israeli and USA, actually we have no distributor for Canada. Thank you for the suggestion, we will contact #########X, hopefully they will be able to deliver the conversion kit to you.

sa58.cz also has them in stock but they won't ship it outside CZ. I know it is meant for the EU people since this item is consider a firearm there. I will call them and ask if the make exeption for Canada
