Hey all,
I've had my nose to the ground looking at options for my VZ. By far the most attractive configuration has been BFiles beautiful collection. In case you haven't seen it:

Unfortunately, as he won't let go of the holy grail, I'm trying to find other routes. Would I be better off talking with a stock crafter for a custom piece? Or would it be possible to generate enough interest to see these manufactured? Lets see how many CGNers we can get on board! Any advice is welcome.

That one turned out pretty nice too. I'd like to see them come through as unfinished maple. It would give people some options for personal preference. In fact, any light wood with a nice grain would be cool.

Bfiles, where did you source your parts? Or did you make them yourself?
 
Best thing I can say now is me and another cgner who shall remain nameless for right now as we are still in the working stages of it will have something built within the next week which I will unveil and let you cgners possibly have a chance to buy them so long as (he who shall remain namelss) is willing to do a good run of them.
I think you guys are gonna like it ALOT!!!!!
 
Only issues I have with the wood handguards is i have blown apart 2 lower handguards. They just can't withstand the recoil and abuse of the 7.62x39 rounds

Right on! Any word on a price range? I'm interested to the point that my credit card has burnt through my wallet and somehow ended up in my hand.. is that normal?

What about widening the LHG with a type of protruding grip? I've seen a few AKs sporting these online.. they look like they may help with muzzle rise as well.

You guys will see soon. Hopefully "HE" will be on here shortly to post pics.

I'm gonna pm him now with this thread and see what he wants to do.

These sets will virtual be indestructible unlike it's wood counter part.
 
Definitely interested in a set, ideally hardwood and unstained but this sounds to me as if they are not made of wood.

(but will they weigh as much as a duck [and burn like a witch?])
 
Like Bfiles says him working on a plastic sets for him , for the moment i am occupy to finish to copy the wood set he sent to me , and print the parts on my 3dprinter , in ABS for the moment and then he will test them and we will improve if needed ,

Can't wait to see the buttstock and buttplate dad003!!!!

The nice thing about an all plastic set is these won't deform in anyway in the weather (ie.... rain, snow, cold, extreme hot).

Plus these can be hydro dipped for any finish one can imagine (ie.... Russia red straight grain, laminate, camo colours etc...)

Sounds like a great idea ! I am honestly almost afraid to shoot it, its too beautifull ! Those handguards are so thin...

That been said, I like my AK wood !

 
The plastic idea is smart.


The biggest problem with the wood sets is since there is not really all that big a market, it is hard to tool up enough to make it worthwhile to build wood sets, and the wood sets are also easy to crack due to the thin stock ferrules on the upper and lower handguards.

It takes a lot of hand fitting to get them to work, even if you have a mill to do most of the inletting.
