VZ58 in AK furniture

Here's my variation of dressing up my VZ like an AK. Bakelite pistol grip and work in progress stock. I snagged an SKS stock for $15 from Canadian Tire, cut it off and reshaped it slightly to fit into an adapter I made from 6061 aluminum. I'll strip and reshellac the stock to match it's original color and paint the adapter. The M4 stock just doesn't suit the VZ.

Can you post anything about the adapter you made? Measurements and pictures?

I was finally able to scrounge up all the hardware bits to mount the surplus wood set I recently got from dlask. I'm super impressed with the quality of this wood.

I see that your buttplate doesn't fit very well, mine is the same, has anybody had any luck finding one that does without having to sand the original stock?

It's made it with hand tools and a router, no real measurements as I made it as I went along. I started with a slab of 3/4" thick 6061 aluminum and cut a piece to match the dimensions of the back of the receiver. Then I made a jig to hold the piece while I used a plunge router to machine out the inside and the backside that locks into the receiver. After drilling the hole for the stock bolt I made another jig to run the part through a thickness sander to taper it to give the stock the right angle. The buttstock as I said was a surplus takeoff from Canadian Tire that I cut and reshaped to fit the adapter. I didn't strip all the original finish off, instead I mixed up some stain to blend in the color where I reshaped it and use Waterlox finish which gives it the deep rich tone like shellac in cosmoline for 60 years and retain the original stamping marks. To attach it all I was unable to locate an M12x1.0 bolt long enough so I used a steel brake line fitting with M12x1.0 threads and was able to tap the inside to accept an M8x1.25 160mm long bolt I had. In the photo is an aluminum brake line fitting with an M6 bolt and the adapter is now about half the thickness and painted black.

Because of the profile of the stock you have to get up on it to avoid "AK cheek slap". Nose to receiver helps avoid the feeling of getting hit in the cheekbone with a hammer. It's like high heels to a woman, they look cool but hurt. Maybe I'll name this thing "The Stiletto"

Hey ####, any chance I could get one of these adapters? :)

Where the F*** can I get the upper handguard in beechwood?

I ordered 4 of them early 2015 direct from Czech Republic... it took some negotiating with price and a LOT of patience as the seller barely spoke English and was acquiring the parts I was requesting from his contacts at the local factory... in the end I Imported 4 complete original 1960's NOS beachwood sets with full hardware, built 2 rifles and sold 2 complete sets on the EE (for $400 each) last year...

I received a bunch of much needed components from the Czech Republic for my VZ/AKM build 2 weeks ago..., finally found a very nice bakelite grip from a local CGN'er, bought a 6 x 110mm metric hex head bolt for mounting the grip, and some proper stain. Bought an old beat up buttplate from the Thorncliffe gunshow.... everything is slowly coming together, Hopefully i'll be able to make decent progress this weekend if its warm outside (no heated garage).
