VZ58 in AK furniture

Hydrodip is no different than any other factory camo max 4 (etc...) finish and those hold up excellent.

Kevin M is correct. One wrong twist with wood and it's all over.

If you want wood: get wood!!! This is not and will not ever be wood. It will most likely function better than wood. But for REAL wood, there is no substitute.

I agree completely, I think a large aspect of the beauty is the wood itself. It gives it a true red rifle feel.

Exactly. I fully understand the durability point of view, but this is the only firearm I have that I would actually want wood on.

I understand hydrodipping, but I also know its limitations. That is why at first I wanted to hydrodip my Tavor multicam, then I decided I wanted a quality finish only Cerakote could provide, so now I am building a bake oven to bake the cerakote.

Ive been saving up for a Vz 58 for a while now, got enough left over American Walnut from my SVD project to make the hand guards and the pistol grip (AK style), and then im planning on slapping a ACE skeletube style stock on the back and throwing nice PO 3x9 Russian scope on it for coyote hunting. So excited. Down the road I may also craft me up a purdy AK 74 shaped buttstock, as a classy option.

After seeing your work I would love to see your VZ-58 project take shape. If you want to get a head start on making your wood pieces, I will lend you mine if you can make me a set for a reasonable price! ;)

HA

I have some sets you could borrow and build off of those if ya want.
Then change and tinker with however you want to

I had a really nice stock set made in the states by an ex military guy, clear beech and it looked amazing, ill try did up his info and post later

I refinished my wood set. Added the AK74U brake. Finally found a AK74U triangular folding stock. When it comes I'm fitting it to this.

Hey bfiles and dad003 I'll take one of those sets when they're ready. They're looking real good!! Hopefully the buttstock will look AK-ish and not cz858-ish??

Hey Dad003 that buttstock is looking good!
The handguards on my set are a bit beefier than the original beaver barf and surplus wood. Is your set the same as original or a bit bigger?

Yours are from a different guy who made them.

Dad003 copied my handguards exact so if you look at the first page of this thread. The pics of my rifles, those handguards are a copy of them in size and shape
