VZ58....I've been missing out!

It did try it like that at first. It works the same and it's alot more stable and comfortable way to carry the gun... but my strap isn't really long enough to lift the gun to my shoulder and still have strap going around my back and under my arm. It would work fine I'm sure if your strap was long enough. It works fine for me to have it slung under my arm while standing and then slip my arm out when I go to shoot, just more tedious and not as fast in a clinch situation... but fast enough for the range I suppose...

If you're looking for soft, try pipe insulation and duct tape. I prefer it to the para-cord.

Bingo. I even pad stocks with that stuff. Superglue it on. Wrap in ducttape for strength. Wrap in electrical tape for matching the black of the gun. I have that on the butt of a mossberg 500 and now even a 100lb asian girl can shoot it comfortably. before she said it hurt way too much.

^No love for the 19" ehhh?
Castrol 5w40 syntec. Cheaper then equivalent amount of gun oil. Under $10 per litre.

Took it to the range today, also brought some handguns for which I set the target at 10 meters. It's an indoor 50m range and gets pretty dark by the backstop so I didn't even bother moving the target back and just plinked away with the VZ off hand. Accuracy wasn't bad, I want to try it from the bench at 100 yards see what it can do. Recoil was minimal too, it was a good day :) One thing tho I shot 100 rounds and the gun was getting pretty hot at the gas port, and because of the short barrel it was not far from my hand, I burned myself a few times by accidentally touching it, even after half an hour when I got home it was still quite warm:eek:

This happens a lot with my 858 in x39, it's still warm after driving home from the range, and that's about a 30 minute trip. It's never affected function and I've put over 500 rounds through my 858 in one sitting, so if you were worrying about that, don't.

One thing I recommend doing is leaving the action open when you're not shooting it. Most ranges make this mandatory but if you're shooting out in the bush or something, don't forget to do it. It cools it down a little bit. If you really wanted to air cool it you could take off the piston cover when you're not shooting, but there's really no need.

The barrels on these things get really hot too! Nothing like having that big non-restricted scorching hot barrel smacking you in the arm when you're walking around with it on a sling. :(
