Pick up a NIB CSA VZ58 .223 from another member and man oh man this is one sweet toy! Small, light, good quality I feel like I've been missing out! :( I might even like it better than my AR... Btw I knew they're nothing like AK inside, but I didn't know they're basically an SKS inside! maybe I should spend less time with handguns and shoot rifles more often :p

I have a couple of questions tho;

1) Whats best on these guns oil or grease? personal preference?

2) I saw people used a string (giant shoelace?) wrapped around the folding stock, what is that thing? I need something like that.

What Stevo said about the folder. Actualy on one of mine I paracorded the folder with the pipe insulation underneath. As for the gerenal rule applies to this rile also...
If it slides grease it lightly and if it piviots just a dab of lube will due ;)

Satain, Do you have a pic of this? I'm interested to see how it turned out. How did you like it?

Not really like an SKS inside either. Striker vs hammer fired and pivoting vs tilting breech block.

They are very nice little rifles though. Light, decent ergonomics, well made.

Couldn't justify spending the extra money... Plus I have an SKS for that, also I already reload .223 for my AR. I imagine x39 in that size would have too much kick anyways. Not having to clean the gun right away after shooting is another bonus!

too much kick? Its like getting punched by a spider monkey. Add a good brake and all you feel is the BCG slamming into the back of the reciever. As for the paracord, its quick and easy to do. Most survival/tactical/mall ninja shops should have some. I grabbed 50 ft. of it for about 8 bucks. When doing paracord over soft insulation you'll have to be careful to keep the wraps even in tension otherwise it'll come out all lumpy. I did 2 wraps of just paracord and find it an improvement but still dont have solid contact with the stock.

the middle one is wrapped just on the metal stock. the other two i have insulation under neath. more comfortable

my lube of choice for almost everything now.

My CZ858 runs with 5w40, if it works in an internal combustion engine it must be ok. Plus its cheap and availabe by the litre.

I'll try to explain this because I can't post a picture...

I have a sling with a large padded shoulder strap on my CSA carbine. The wide padded section of the sling is attatched to the gun at the back end, behind the reciever. I slip the sling over my head and have the carbine hanging across chest, muzzle down, with that wide padded section laying over my shoulder/collar bone. It's a very comfortable way to stand with the gun but what i found is this... every time I lift the gun to my shoulder...with the sling still looped around my neck... that padded section on the sling lifts with the reciever and lays flat against my cheek... and the "bar" of the folding stock comes up tight against the padding, pressing tight against my cheek.

This really is the sh't or I wouldn't have bothered explaining it. It happens perfect every time and it's like I'm laying my cheek on a pillow. Best cheek rest ever

Sounds good CousinTony What kind of sling are you using?
I just wrapped some hockey tape loose but firm over the quality pipe insulation.

Just a Canadian Tire special that I bought a long time ago for a different gun. Yes, I'm shooting right handed... but I don't have the sling under my arm... just draped around my neck... or draped around my neck with the rest of the strap just hooked over my left shoulder/bicep... so that when I raise the gun it pops up off my shoulder... if ya know what I'm sayin...
