VZ58 Lightning Bolt

For all you guys who wish the charging handle on your VZ58 was on the left side of the bolt carrier, check this out:

Sorry about the crappy pics.

It's a Ligthning Bolt, from Colorado Shooting Sports.

It's a drop-in replacement for your current bolt carrier. Ejection is still to the right, accuracy is not changed. It makes the VZ58 alot more natural to operate, easier to get new shooters accustomed to as well.

Yeah, the stock VZ works fine, this thing does speed up chambering a fresh round after a mag change though!

I just had my bolt carrier tabbed by a local welder/gun smith. He is now tabbing a spare bolt carrier for me and switching the handle to the left side.

I'm trying to convince him to do it for the guys here who'd want it. He said that if he was to do it, he'd need people to ship their bolt carrier to him and pay shipping back to them, on top of what he'd charge for the welding and manufacturing.

What do you guys think would be a fair (for everyone) price for a TIG welded tab (and the guy teaches welding so it would be well done) and switching the handle to the left?

make sure he heat treats the tab after welding it on.

Yes they need to be annealed before welding and heat treated after, coating the exposed area isn't a bad idea either. We have run into a patent issue on these (D-Technic has a patent on the tabbed carrier design) which we're in the process of dealing with.

I couldnt find it on their site, Do you just callem up for one? How much?

Email Anthony, I believe the standard price is $165. It sounds steep but, they don't build safequeen parts. I've seen AK Lightning bolts run 3K+ rounds four days, there was article on them in SWAT a while back, these are built to the same standards. They also have a better than factory finish.

Rather than send your bolt carrier to get modded, Tennessee Guns International sells them cheap, they'll accept a foreign order shipped CONUS.

A short rant about the direction of this thread:

When I question the price some are willing to pay for mythical inventions I get crapped on. I get told innovation costs money, support small business, it's new idea, production costs, ect.

I post a pic and short review of a QUALITY, PROPERLY BUILT, product sold by a friend, within four posts y'all are openly discussing making your own. Go ahead and have some dude birdsh*t weld your handle to the other side, because it's just that easy, see how that works out. I hope you have an extra bolt carrier, and the handle flies off foreward.

It's an AVAILABLE item, I didn't smuggle mine in my rectum, American boogeymen won't come find you if you buy one.

I get called a socialist because I won't give a kidney for non existent mags that would immediately be banned if produced, but half-a$$edly ripping off good wormanship to save a dime and lose an eye goes over well.

Pardon me while I go barack-up my supper.

How hard are you using your rifle? I'm "guessing" that BDG treats it a little bit rougher than you do

I spit them out like the ammo is free and they're going bad... Ive put a case of Czech through it a month steady. Now I'm not "guessing" how BDG shoots, but I'd say that's a fair test on my machining skills on this particular bolt..

..Colorado Shooting Sports does good work, and I'd reccomend their products. There's a market for supplying parts to those that can't produce their own. And they do it right. $165 is a little steep for a weld job, but I'm sure you won't have to worry about a charging handle sized hole through your glasses.. Personally I have enough faith in my skills to make my own, $165 is almost a case of ammo. ..got to have priorities. ;)

Sir, as biased an SOB as I am, that is possibly the most sensible post I have read on this site. You should post more sir, it would dilute the stench of internetters.

I stand corrected then, it's good to see a CGNer who doesn't solely have guns to go with their outfit...not too many these days

I am not sure they're telling you the truth. Have you actually seen any patent documentation?

You can't just take an existing product, make the smallest of modifications to it and patent it as something else. Patent law doesn't work that way.

You can not patent a small metal addition to an already existing patent any more then you could patent the same bolt carrier into which you've made a scratch of a certain design, as a new device.

From Can anything under the sun be patented?

To be sure, nothing can be patented unless it is truly inventive. That is, inventions must be new and not obvious from anything that has been made before, for them to be patentable.
