VZ58 Short Barrels

When is it going to be February already so these products will be realeased to purchase.

I want the following NOWWWWWW:

Mag Release
Bolt Release
Muzzle Break
AR Stock Adapter
Short or Restricted Bull Barrel
Rail Attachment from Front Hand guard to Rear Receiver.

Let's get the ball rolling. My money has to go somewhere. :D

This is great news... I just happen to be in desperate need of a new barrel for my rifle.

If I were to replace my 58L barrel with one of these shorts ones, how does a person go about getting the rifle reclassified as a restricted?

Why would you do that to a 58L?

Long story...

The barrel was made by trained monkeys at CZ Hermex and the headspace was out to lunch.

I bought it off the EE and it worked when test fired a few times (it was winter). It wasn't until summer that I got around to buying a big box of ammo and was spending more time at the range with it. I noticed right away that it had a few too many FTE for a rifle with such a good reputation.

I was very late in diagnosing any real problems because everyone I asked kept telling me "you are not cleaning it right, it comes with a chamber brush for a reason". More bad advice came from the local gunsmith who said "it was probably a lacquer buildup from the surplus ammo". The symptoms seemed to match what other people experience with a dirty chamber.

The first gunsmith I took it too did a lead cast and noted "the chamber was roughly cut". He suggested getting the chamber recut, but he had no 7.62 gauge or reamer to do so.

I then sent it to a very reputable gunsmith (who I should have sent it to from the start) and he quickly found the problem. The gauge showed a definite "NO GO". The barrel was worthless and could not be recut. The rifle should have never left the factory and never have been re-sold on EE. Sadly too much time has passed to do anything about it.

I still love the rifle and want to see it working properly one day.

Most people don't know this but headspacing on the VZ58 FOW is not determined by the barrel installation or chamber cut. The Czechs had a much better way of doing it with these rifles. Contact Scott from Dycor (m39a2 on the forums) he has dealt with this on VZ rifles in the past. It could have been the PO who ignorantly changed out some parts that caused this.

Oh. What a shame...

Haha yea... :D

I'll write this off as a learning experience. QC issues happen with any manufacturer and this one was simply caught way too late.

Anyhow, my rifle is still with the gunsmith and it will be $125 labor to install a new barrel, assuming I can ever find one lol. So godspeed on this short barrel project...

I will definately give him a shout, thanks. In the mean time here are the exact words of the gunsmith from his email:

The action with the No Go gauge easily closed & locked, proving the chamber has excessive headspace. This explains separated / cracked casings and rims being torn off the base of the round.
Recutting the chamber will only make the problem worse as it is too long to begin with.

Just to clarify, there were never any visibly cracked or separated cases. The only mark on any of the stuck ones was where the rim was ripped off by the extractor.

After the shenanigans with the shipment of inbound shorties I want an extremkurz rifle because it does this

What is the diameter of the barrel behind the front sight base? If it is close to .75, then an AR front sight base should work on it right? I am not sure if the front sight post would be the same height as the rear sight however.
Just planning some mods........

be patient, and dont worry about mods. This bad boy will come ready to be installed, new stainless gas block and all. The cool part is, the new barrels will be corrosion resistant, in non rest and rest lenghts and retail in the ball park of $200ish. The hold up is not actually for the barrels though............. its for something new and railish that we are developing for Troy..................
