VZ58 vs sks

In the old Czechoslovakian Army, VZ58 was used to shoot a target of a '' Non covered laying silhouette at 50m by SA and a full size standing silhouette by FA at 100m.
So I don't understand when someone says VZ58 is more accurate then SKS.

I dont't think you "built" anything, all i see is a bunch of bolt on plastic.

Just Saying

True somewhat.... when it comes to guns, the term "build" is kind of subjective. See it used all the time in the black rifle section. Guys saying they built an AR or SLR when really did they? or did they just assemble and AR with pre manufactured parts??

In my defense I did do some tool work on that gun. Cut off the bayo lug, did a trigger job, built a trigger over travel stop, modded the bolt for drop free mags, welded a side rail to the receiver (which people love to b!tch at me about, but despite that it's been working great for 3 years :p) also opened the ejection port to keep the cases ejection path lower.

Nice to see someone doing somewhat useful mods. I'm generally a bit of a purist when it comes to surplus military guns, but if you have a mismatched gun to start with, then practical mods make sense....why not mod it to work better? It's the bolting on of plastic crap which doesn't help function (and often just adds cost, interferes with reliability, and/or adds weight) that I personally roll my eyes at. But that's just me.

I’ve never once had a malfunction with my vz58 .

Glad to hear that. I still own one CSA that runs 100%. Love that gun. I've had 2 others that have needed warranty work, and know of at least one other (a buddy's gun) that had reliability issues. I see CSA as the "NEA of the Vz58 world": when you get a good one, be happy. When you get one with issues, don't be surprised.

On the other hand, I've never had even a single issue with a Cz858 or CZH2003. And I've owned a bunch...

What parts fail tho ?

I had both about 10 years ago, a Cz858 and a Russian Sks. The cz858 was my first rifle. Here's how I put it:

Quality: Vz58 (I had the CZ though, can't speak for the other brands)

Affordability: Sks....obviously, got a package deal, rifle and case of 1,300 rds for under $500.

Fun factor: Vz58 by far, for me.

Ergonomics: Vz58

Accuracy: Sks. Now it might just be me but I would shoot 4" groups at 100yds with irons with the SKS and about 6" with the 858.

Bottom line if the Vz58's were still $750 like they were when I bought mine, it would be my pick for sure. At $1400+, it's a very hard sell.

I have both. My VZ58 wins hands down, so much so that my sks is basically a wall hanger now. I’ve put nearly 18,000 rounds through my VZ58 and never had an issue or replaced a part.

Also have both. I have probably shot my SKS maybe 4 times since I got the VZ 3 years ago. Not sure there's much difference in accuracy but the VZ is just a much nicer gun to shoot.

Plus the LOP on an SKS is super short to the point I find shouldering it awkward. It's like the ergonomics on the thing were designed for a midget.

CSA was good about replacing the piston (and even sent me a spare!), and the warranty repair on my gun with the feeding issues was done and the gun was returned quickly. If they had better QC, though, you wouldn't have these issues...

This! Considering what the guns cost, they damn well better work.

I liked the platform a lot when they were $695.

just my 2 cents, i used to say the vz58 was a glorified sks. until i tried my buddy's. the ergonomics are way better, the sights seem more crisp. i was ringing the steel at 300 yards with it, where my sks was having trouble.. the only issue is the price, like stated above; if it was 750, no problem, but 1400 or so is a tough pill to swallow.

I havent laughed this hard in a long time. Can't believe we are comparing crappy SKSs to Cz858's now. The only downside of the Cz858 is having stupid Canadian laws that messed with the design.

Iv shoot a real Vz58 while overseas and it's not even in the same league as an SKS. Heck it puts my 858 and Type81 to shame as well.

But since im not bias, I own all of them regardless.
