Many guys are dreaming of an ak47 but unfortunately because of our laws we cant so........

I ve been thinking about what could i install on my VZ to make it look more ak47'ish.

I came up with the crazy idea of replacing the front sight block assembly with an ak47 FSB with devil's horn iron sight style.

I guess if i would be lucky enough to find one it will obviously wont fit... whatever the origin airsoft or romanian/bulgarian. just to have a model.

BUT : I got a friend working in the same company that i do, structural steel fitting and welding dep. who's a Machinist and could mill it from a solid steel block for me.

I ve been thinking about buying/importing whatever the source of FSB to have a model so he can mill it to the look of ak47 FSB with the VZ base so i can put it back on my rifle.

I know it may sound crazy but please tell me about your opinion guys...

been looking on the internet for infos found nothing concerning vz58 FSB removal/replacing.

I think im dreaming..... because it only sounds like problems.

may 2017 update

I think your idea rocks and I'll be pissed if you don't give it a try!! Just remember, the dremel tool is your friend. It will get you through any disassembly problem. Please keep us updated pics of this crazy cool project!!

Of course i will do it.

I just need to order some ak47 FSB and try make it fit on the VZ with the 2 pins. If that s impossible me and the machinist will try to mill a brand new FSB VZAK58.

The guy is very talented has already done some skull carved transmission shifters for cars very well done.

I think this projet is not a big challenge for him.

Hope this works.. now time to order an FSB.

I had no clue what you were talking about until I googled it... this is the AK47 front sight base you are talking about?

Im sure you could make it work if you have money and time to mill afew and fit em, but you would void the warranty.... One you will probably need to use for the VZ58.

If I remember correctly, the ID of the VZ58 FSB is 0.565", and the ID of the AK47 FSB is 0.590". You can make a shim to seat it on the muzzle end of the barrel, but I chose to press it back for the SBR look. The OD of the barrel tapers to approximately ~0.590" where I mounted my FSB, and it pressed on with ease with a little lube. You just need to run a drill through the holes in your FSB when it's in place to score your barrel for the pins. Keep in mind, the AK47 sight block is about 5mm taller, so 100m zero for me sits at about 300m on the rear sight.

I purchased the stripped FSB from Browells, and salvaged the pins from my VZ58. One mushroomed, and required a replacement pin to be made from a punch. You're on your own for the front post, as I still haven't sourced the block it screws into. The post itself is interchangeable with an SKS-D.

Edit:
As far as removal of the existing FSB goes, use lots of penetrating oil on the pins and FSB. I went to Princess auto and picked up a cheap 12 ton press, and it made removal much easier. Hand tools would likely damage something as it was on there very tight. Even a modified gear puller wasn't strong enough.

Lets hope my rifle wont have problem..

Did you had the 7.62? or 556.

How can you tell the year it was built?

Date is stamped under the iron sights on the right. Mine is 7.62, Honestly I think its pretty common for them (new) developing problems after a few thousand rounds because the rails in the receiver are a weak spot. The finnish on them starts to wear and makes them uneven and stops the bolt from moving freely and causes them to jam up and misfeed rounds. CSA is aware that "excess material" is the common cause of this and its not a one in a million thing from reading the forums.

Go to grabcad.com

Search for Chinese Front Sight Block.
There is a SolidWorks CAD part model that you can download.
Might be able to modify the bore to fit the CZ and have it milled.
I measured two internal bore diameters of just under 15mm and just over 15mm (its stepped).

First of all i would like to thanks everyone helpin me in this thread.

@ lmar Thank you so much my machinist will appreciate those SW files. i just installed the program first time and uh in 5 minutes i ve been able to see alot of details for the FSB.

If I was going through the effort of putting a fsb on my VZ, ID go the extra mile and mill a new gas block, and extended piston as well, then figure out how to move that up the barrel. That would certain give the gun a excellent "AK look"
