W M70 XTR Sporter...

Buddy had one in .300 Win Mag that was his primary moose rifle. Shot real well with 70 gr IMR 4350 behind 180 gr SP's.

I have the same rifle but in .30-06, it shoots 165 gr SP's very well. I like that it has a 24" barrel from the factory.

Push feed M70's that can usually be had quite reasonably.

IMHO they are 'sleepers' in the reasonable but good hunting rifle world.

If it's in decent shape & you can get a good deal on it, it will likely serve you well.

I had two push feed M-70's, A 30-06, and 300 WM. Used them from the early seventies until a few years ago when I got the bright idea I should have a Kimber 8400. I still own the Kimber but I also have 3 new M-70's in 243, 30-06, and 375. I guess I have the M-70 bug.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the vintage of M-70 your looking at. As the fella mentioned above they are sleepers in the gun world and under appreciated. A very good solid, dependable rifle that can be had for reasonable money if you shop around.

There are two types of gun owners in the world: Those that own M-70's, and those that wish they did! There now that statement should cause lots of irate response's and keep this thread going for at least the next couple weeks. Especially from a cranky young fella up in Whitehorse who is a Rem 700 lover. But he does own a couple M-70's so he starting to drift over from the "dark side"
Anyways buy the M-70 300 WM you will not regret owning the gun or calibre.

You guys are certainly stoking up the M70 addiction! :nest:

I've owned the CRF and the Push feeds, I'm happy with either type. Right now, the 2 push feed M70 I have are working for me nicely. And I do have a Remmy M700 in .223. It's all good!

Cheers,
Barney

My buddy has a M70 XTR Featherweight in .308 that will shoot MOA all day if you do your job. They are good guns and well worth the money

Just received my First Winny M70 XTR in 22-250. It was hunted with but i look forward to seeing how it shoots. Mainly for distant coyotes and such. Had a Parker Hale in 22-250 many years ago and have deeply regretted trading it . Waiting for my dies and brass to arrive. then reload and have at 'er.
