Wad stuck in the barrel

does anyone else see this 'wadknocker' as a stick? I'm new, so I'm asking in earnest.

Wads fit the bore rather loosely, and they are easy to remove. Wads become stuck when there is next to no gas pressure in the bore, the shot just dribbles out the muzzle and the choke alone is enough to stop the wad from exiting the barrel.

Yeah, Wad Knockers are available, their intended market is the competitive shooter who needs a tool fast because they're standing on the firing line. Field expedient has always been to treat the barrel as a blow gun. Unload for obvious reasons and keep the chamber open, then create a seal between the muzzle and your mouth, one good blast of air and the wad is out and you're back to hunting. I'm not sure how well this technique works with the heavier wads designed for steel shot but it works very well on the wads from field loads. And yes, a cleaning rod or dowel will push the wad out easily.

But don't be the guy who used a stick, got it stuck, then used a 3' section of all-thread to unstick the stick then sticks the all-thread. Yeah, his hunt was over, but it was a good laugh.

so the moral of the story is to use a smooth stick? The idea of putting threaded rod into a barrel makes me sad- scratching it up and such.

Lots of things it could be. Weak primer, bad powder, improperly positioned wad. Was it perhaps a Winchester factory load?

As amatter of fact, it was a Winchester factory 3.5" (or maybe 3" can't remember) #2 steel load. Are Winchester loads more likely to be defective?

The wad is really stuck so I will pickup a hardwood dowel at Home Depot tomorrow.

I will let you guys know how it worked out. Thanks

I've had similar problems with Winchester loads. At a clay shoot a few years we ran into problems similar to yours with Winchester AA target loads. Weak sounding loads, lots of unburned powder and wads stuck in barrels that had to be pounded out.

I figured I'd just add to an old post.

Does anyone know were you can get a collapsible wad pusher , I guy i was shooting with had one, But he got it at a competition.

Seen them online but from the US.
Or I'm going to try building one I can put in my pocket and together quickly. Thinking about magnets 🧲 🤔

I usually just cut a shell a half inch above the rim, dump out shot, pull out wad and dump powder. Put the primed rim in the gun and shoot in a safe direction. With the only force coming from a naked primer, it usually shoots the stuck wad out and you go about your business. But this is incase there arent any sticks around
😂😂😂

Ohlee digg’in up bones. 🕵🏻‍♀️
Why are the old heads around here so against using the search feature?
Serious question, as I see alot of moaning and groaning even on legitimate resurrections such as this one.
I get it replying "nice" to a old post is ridiculous and i agree in those instances, go ahead and tear those guys apart.

Because if it were that way. You’d more the likely be like. “Use the gd search feature this has been asked and discussed before”

I see both ends constantly. It’s it’s brutal.
God forbid someone uses a forum for its intended purpose

Why does everyone get so offended with reviving a old thread? If you are looking at a old post, have something relevant to add to it, why start a new post if all your doing is wanting to state somethung in a already existing thread?

For example on this one, of the poster who revived it started a new thread on what he stated, no one would really care about it, because the context to his comment is based on all the existing posts. Which is impossible to try sum up in a new post, and for what reason when all a person wants is to add their opinion to what already exists.

I rather enjoy looking at older posts, especially about reloading techniques, or powder burn rates and things about different cartridges, and to see how much stuff has changed. To me if it bothers you having a old thread revived, as soon as you see the original post is really old, just back out of it. Don't read through if all your going to do is comment on that it's a old thread. Let the people who are interested in it have fun, no matter how redundant you may think it is.

Just my two cents, I know most people probably don't agree. But I rather enjoy if I have a super old post and someone asks, or adds something to it years down the road.
