Walked in to buy a Mossberg 930...walked out with a Benelli M4

Hey I just bought a 930 last month, don't rain on my parade.

Hey dont sweat it Cyclops....i own a mossberg 935 along with a bunch of higher end Italian guns. Yes, you cant compare the quality of the Mossberg to the others, but I paid $750 for mine and that includes 2 barrels and two stocks. Its now the only gun I take with me on a goose, duck, turkey or deer hunt. It works great, kills everything i point it at and I never have to feel bad about using it as a boat paddle or boat anchor. I took down 2 geese at about 45-50 yards on opening day in 2013, and thats after I dropped it into the lake, only to find 3 zebra mussles inside the action when i got home and cleaned it. It didnt miss a beat. As a matter of fact, it still even cycled these garbage Challenger 2 3/4", 7/8oz steel dove loads on the same hunt from the same blind! Cant beat that...

Unless you're wealthy a prick who doesn't give a shxt a $2300 shotgun is going to get somewhat babied. There's something to be said for a gun that you won't be inclined to treat like a princess.

To finish off the title to this thread " Walked in to buy a Mossberg 930...walked out with a Benelli M4 - told the wife they cost 'about the same' so I didn't have to sleep in the camper"

Lol, you have no idea how close to accurate you are :)

I don't lie to her for my sake. I do it for her...I just want her to her to be happy.

Yup....i have enough princess guns that I treat well....sometimes it becomes too much of a chore. And sometimes its just more fun finding one to treat like a whore!

Suddenly working remote up north for a living makes a guy a wealthy prick? My M4 is a work tool, and $2000 doesn't an expensive gun make, it's just a very decent shotgun. Hell, I have a double rifle that makes an M4 look like a bargain I get down and dirty with the in sands of Africa- and I'm no multi-millionaire. Have friends who are regular wage earners as well using even more valuable guns for dirty work. Pick what you like best, and use it for real, never could stand safe queens, guns are tools. Some guys just prefer excellent tools, whether they be torque wrenches or shotguns, and I can't see a problem with that. Don't think the Marine Core babies their M4s, the M4 will take any abuse you can throw at it, even better than a 930.

The M4 was purpose built for the harshest use imaginable for a shotgun, don't sweat it. If it gets scratches, a fresh coat of cerakote will fix that and you'll actually have enjoyed using the gun and covering your butt with it in the bush. That's what it was built for. :) It's not a $55,000 Holland & Holland, nor any beauty queen, just and excellent tool of reasonable price. :)

An extra week or two's worth of wages is no big deal if you're talking about something that will last a lifetime, as long as you get good use out of it.

The M4 should not only outlast most other shotguns in terms of round count durability, but thanks to all the military contracts it'll likely still be supported for quite a while other designs get discontinued.

Negative, just a flimsy cardboard box.

As a side note it is interesting the M4 is often portrayed by owners of its value priced competitors as being some sort of princess or poser gun, when in reality it is very likely the toughest and most tested combat semi out there. So to anyone considering the M4, it is the best of the bunch, and is worth its price tag. There are other semis that are decent too, but the M4 is my favourite.

Ardent raises some very good points about the M4s proven record. Given that the M4 can be found for as low as $1,899 new, both it and its inertia-driven little brother the M2 (for under $1,500) represent some of the best values in the Canadian shotgun market.

Exactly!! If you can swing it, why not buy quality? Unfortunately, looks like the ship has sailed on that $1899 sale. Cheapest I've found is $2050 or thereabouts.
