Walmart is getting out of the ammo biz

If someone was to work at CT as a floor salesperson and sell firearms, would they need a PAL É (french keyboard sorry)

VV

I don't know about firearms, but when i worked at our CT I was only 17 and was still granted full access to the ammo case, among other cases. The "sports" department at our wally is run by the "leisure" department. When i bought some ammo, the person who opened the ammo cabinet was from the toys department, she seemed new to the job and did not really know what to do when selling ammo, but I do not blame her or it.

The reason I started this thread was because there are sooo few places to purchase ammo within my area(Fredericton, NB). Within an hour radius there are less than five places to purchase anything related to firearms/hunting. So when you loose such access it can really affect the ability to expand the hunting/shooting sports and bring on new members to our club(s). This to me is a much larger negative affect than anything.

It would be great that a smaller/owner operator was able to step up and supply the masses within our area with great hours of operation and relatively decent prices, but the ones that do exist have major capitalization issues as they struggle to make ends meet. I commonly buy something off of these guys as I want to ensure their long term success. With our low population and the expense of getting shipments into our dealers it costs considerably more than if they were in one of the major areas like Montreal, Toronto, or Calgary.

Oh- for those that took the time to email me on "how to use the search" I appreciate the message, I prefer that you post a thread and leave the Sh*& talk for the lodge or your Momma's house. I don't post or talk to any peers of mine like that and don't appreciate it in return. Just a note, this site has gone through several changes and I simply didn't have time to educate myself on the in's and out's of the changes however I will do what I can in the future to ensure the most efficient method of posting information for everyone to benefit.

Regards,

J

Local Wally Mark and Cda Tire here both have a good selection of ammo. None of the rare stuff, but for the common every day stuff (12ga,22cal,30-30, 303Br, etc).they always seem to have full shelves.

The biggest problem is having to "educate" the sales staff................the odd cuff across the back of the head normally gets their attention............

Nither the Oakville Ont and Burlington Ont. Walmarts have ammo cabnets anymore. Nothing but BB's in there now. I was told by an employee at the Oakville one that it's up to the store manager...do we, or do we not carry ammo. He also told me that most of the stores in the GTA are getting out of it.

It's the same deal at CT's, it's up to the store manager/owner if they want to get an ammo license and sell ammunition. There's a couple CT's around here that dont sell ammo.

Shelves in Queensborough and Chilliwack were almost empty, no slugs or buckshot at all.
I know it is "good to support local stores"... 'cept local stores are not open (Queensborough wally world is 24/7) when i go shooting and are not on the way at all. That and I cant really afford to pay an extra 20-30% markup they have.
As for name books and stuff... must be eastern thing. If not for prompts on their registers they would forget to ask for my PAL here :D

i see a tread about this every 4 months and my local store is re-stocked everymonth

Same thing in my neck of the wood... the shelves will go empty every few years when they switch from Winchester to Federal back to Winchester ammunition... in the mean time, they always have good deals on the "old" ammo, recently picked up a bunch of Federal slugs for $2 a box...

The Wallmart here in Whitehorse said they are still going to sell ammo. However they said they are not selling buckshot anymore at any of their stores. The clerk also said they are no longer selling bear spray.

Doesn't the Whitehorse Canadian Tire sell rifles? I was there in August on a airline layover and after riding the little train and having lunch at a 50s style dinner I went to the Canadian Tire to get some batteries. It looked like a really cool place, they had rifles and big windmills for generating your own power.

Walmart here in Kelowna is not stocking 00buck or slugs anymore... they will only stock what moves so 7mm/30-06/22-250/308/303 and #4-#7-#8 12ga shot is about all you can find.

The Burlington Ontario Walmart is the last one in the area with ANY ammo. Went in there today and the woman told me that none of their ammo was being replenished. Once it's gone, it's gone. As far as she knew all of the Walmarts in Ontario were getting out of it. Lebarons must be jumping for joy.

BTW. The Burlington Walmart is now out of 300 win mag. I'll give you one guess where it all went :D I also bought 3 boxes of that crappy Winchester Xpert, or whatever it's called 22LR. hollow points. The holes in the hollow point look like they were made by a drunk, blind chimp with a hammer and a nail. Oh well. Some cheap ammo is better than none I guess.

In my area all the walmarts carry ammo but are dropping in inventory. This is likely more to do with the insane situation in the US vs a corporate ploy to not sell.

Ammo in the US is sold out in many locations. Manfs are backordered for months. Wouldn't surprise me that everyone is on allocation so no one is getting anywhere near what they want to stock.

Simple way to find out if the store really is stopping. Ask a clerk to use their inventory 'gun' and zap a popular item like 22LR or 308W and see what they show for inventory and ordering.

If the item is still active and will be stocked, it will say so right on that gun screen. It may even give an ETA if stock is in their district warehouse. Their system reorders automatically as soon as the cash register logs in an item and their inventory shows out of stock.

Empty shelves may not be the end of ammo at all. May just be a reflection that pretty much anything tied to ammo is out of stock throughout NA.

Try buying some primers today.....

Jerry

PS the real scary thing is that primers are now a commondity traded on the Chicago index. Yep, they can't screw with banks, mortgages and oil anymore so they are looking at any commodity they can f*ck with.
