Well then, I can understand them not wanting to lose at least $20 000 by selling rifles for $200 less than they paid for them from NS.
Nobody wants to take a loss. That’s not the point. You repeatedly promise something to your customers
And don’t deliver, you’re going to lose one way or another. Every small business owner knows that. Including myself.

I'd like to think that if Wanstalls shoes were on my feet, I'd at least go in to break even so that the people who really did want a rifle (or bought a bunch of stuff for one) could do so and still get somewhat of a deal under the NR tax

No doubt. It seems pretty obvious to me that Wanstalls isn't about to lose their shirt because a manufacturer changed their mind on what their rifle is worth.

People expecting Wanstalls to swallow to difference is ridiculous... Wanstalls was told a price, and put forth a pre order based on that price. They were the reassured that price by the manufacturer. Not their fault m+m decided that price wasn't high enough, or they are going to give another company exclusive distributorship.

Not only is there the NR tax, but now we have to pay for NS's cut too...

It still makes sense to take the route they took. I understand why they did it.

I'm not a regular Wanstalls customer anyway, but this little drama won't keep me from buying something from them if I want it, and if they put on some great sale I suspect the masses will quickly forget and reach for their credit cards while yelling "TAKE MY MONEY PLEASE!" :)

I'm not going to guess which is better. Save face and lose $20g? Or lose credibility and lose $?? In future sales. People are spiteful. I know it wasn't totally Wanstalls fault, but you take a big risk by not officially securing rifles in writing and selling said ghost rifles. Big risk equals exactly that. Not reward in this case...

I'm sure they wish they had never got started. :)

People are spiteful until they see a good deal waved in front of their nose. Then their resolve crumbles. :)

That's true.
I spent $3000 on rifles with Wanstalls in the last year. This would've made $4500. What is the profit on that on average you figure? Even 10% is $450. Now say that doesn't happen next year? Makes the $2-$300 eaten not seem as bad. That's just me though. I would've liked to see them go down fighting at least like can am did.
I'm sure a lot might of passed on the rifle after all the shenanigans. After all, who wants to deal with a company that openly wants to screw Canadians? (M+M).
In the end, I haven't decided what to do.
One could always save the 10% to get $200 off a m10x?

These rifles at Wanstall's dealer cost could have been an option. Who knows wha M+M or North Sylva are saying though. I bought mags, scope rings and scope too...

Fixed it for you. Wanstall's should have offered to obtain the rifles from NS and provide them to pre-sale persons at the new dealer cost. That would have still been an attractive option (to me, at least), and would have allowed Wanstalls to save some face (and future customers) without a significant loss of income. Instead, they come off as chintzy and unreliable with the limited options offered. I feel badly for all involved in this mess....

Bingo !!!!!

Have you all been contacted by them and only given the option of refund? Why would you want this rifle still? I would wash my hands of this whole shebang.

This certainly isn't the first time Wanstall jumped in and offered a brand new rifle based on the MSRP listed on a company's website, but this is the first time a company turned around and said "Oh no, the MSRP is only good for U.S., you Canadians will have to pay much more".

Chances are NS wouldn't allow that. Make them sign something that says they can't sell below $###X. Im pretty sure glock does that, in fact.
