WARNING SKS prices will go up in 2017

At best they are a 200 to 250 dollar rifle .
The only thing great about them was they were a cheap 60 yr old surplus rifle .
If retail prices do go to the high $300/ $400 price range I suspect the demand will wither away .
They have over saturated the market with them
 
Yea, that is what I thought, $400 tops for a run of the mill sks, however my CTC was selling svt40 last year for $650 and sold his last one for $700. But that is SVT! Still I can't see more than $400. Till supply drops off to 0 like the SVT.

Can't Imagine paying $400 for an SKS, but I'm sure others have said the same about surplus firearms in the past. Seems crazy but it could happen if buying habits keep up

I'm not saying it cant happen, but it would make the SKS far less popular as the "starter" rifle that everyone has, and everyone tinkers with.

Lee Enfields and Garands come to mind and everyone was saying the same thing and look at them now. I also can't believe how much Mosins have jumped.
 
From reading some of this thread, it appears Westrifle was right. Prices have gone up.

Is it because supply is running out? A weak Kanadian peso? Who knows.

From my experience, SKS are first buyer toys. Cheap, with lots of cheap surplus ammo. When that changes you are left with a inaccurate expensive rifle that is too expensive for a newbie to feed. Newbie buys something else.

What is that price for SKS, and x39? Yet to be determined.
 
Bayers Lake Canadian Tire had them for $199 (last checked there last week), yesterday Dartmouth Crossing Canadian Tire had them for $279.99 wood stock and $319.99 for laminate, crazy if you ask me...

Ask for tall Spencer ( there are 2) or Justin at Bayers, they will bring out a few for you to pick from if you are patient, they are usually busy. Tomorrow is 20x and 30x CTC money on the CTC cash or card!
 
It seems quite clear to me that we have taken cheap SKS's for granted.
$200 or less was a very good price for a superbly reliable military grade surplus rifle w/ perfectly decent accuracy.
And it looks very "Soviet". You know, kinda like an AK. That's a major "cool" factor for many of us.

(Finite) supply and demand: people like/want them and they don't make them anymore.
It is almost certain that prices will continue to go up as supply dwindles at retailers.
But ultimately, they will continue to be worth what people are willing to pay for them.
It has been mentioned already, but look at the price acceleration of the SVT-40 as an (imperfect) example.

i bought mine couple of months ago and Justin let me pick and choose one back when they were $199.99, today they're $239.99. i was thinking of picking up a second SKS for when my father comes to the range with me.
i'm looking for a a decent Mosin-Nagant, around $220 for round and $280 for the Hex is the avg now, found a 1925 Hex (a.k.a. so called ex-dragoon) at Dartmouth Crossing CT, might pick it up once i get that claim money from work :D

I have a 25 hex, $280 is a good price. Also have a 1922, bore is a bit rough around the throat, she must have seen some action, Prices will creep up over time for sure, so far though CTC Bayers is still the cheapest around!
 
Picked up a 1953 Tula light refurb, ( stock still has most of the stampings and no x outs or sanding, blueing is nice) used the cc and got $24 CTC money. I had this one put aside so got it for old price, but they are reg. $280. On sale for $239.99 now. Should have bought 2,, there are a few nice ones in the new batch ( they bought 100 more sks). I didn't get to look at them all yet, just about 30!
 
I posted the above to show, as Westrifle said, even the cheapest places are starting to raise the prices, when these come off sale they will be $280. For birch stock. I personally like the birch stocks better, but understand why the laminate are more, supply and demand! Works for me.
 
There is like five mint sks unissued early import. at prophet river they have been there almost three months they aren't selling stop with the fear mongering the market is clearly saturated ! And ps there much cheaper then that BBQ paint junk that crappy tire is plugging. There is thousands sitting in guys safes look at the EE these aren't selling like you guys keep wanting to believe
