Waste of money air guns

I agree with OP. Airguns are for cowards and girly-men, anything less than a .50 bmg is just a waste of time.

How about this girly airgun?

Actually, I fail to see the point of this. Just get a 30-06 for $500 and it'll be five times more powerful.

Last year I bought a Gamo 1200fps air rifle... biggest waste of coin i ever spent... I keep it in my gun safe just to remind me of how stupid I was... Been there, done that, won't do it again....

ya i bought one of those as my first air gun...kinda turned me off airguns sounds like a 410 going off! well maybe not that bad but i do know my 22 rimfire with cb's is a hell of a lot quieter! what a piss off

I know eh? First time i shot it, I literally said WTF??? Way louder than I was expecting LoL... For the first 3 months I had, i played with it a lot and accuracy was pretty darn good... Then it started going everywhere... I even went to the extent of deleading the barrel... Nope.. no good.. I even slapped my Schmidt&Bender 3-12x50 on it to, thinking my cheap assed optics sh-it the bed.. Nope... It's all over the place... I should get the bastard chromed and hang it on the wall to serve as a reminder to myself as lesson learned...

EDIT: I even got a complete seal kit for it and resealed it thinking it was inconsistent air pressure.. NOPE Still a POS

There is a lot of that hypocricy around here.

I agree, that some people are too quick to jump all over something and write it off. I'd just like to state, that I think there is a fun factor for air guns, It's just that for some of the prices paid for these units, they don't seem to deliver... I'd be tickled pink if i could find a good quality, reasonabley priced air rifle that has consistent accuracy shot after shot after shot, for years on end....
But it just seems the majority of the rifles out there today cannot deliver on this for a reasonable price...

There are hundreds of serious competion shooters across Canada that spend big money for their gear(rifles, pistols, jackets, pants, boots, etc.)Targets are shot at 10 meters from standing position and takes hours of practise to shoot competitive scores.Anschutz,Walther and Feinwerkbau are the choice of the pros.

Airguns were how I started in the shooting sports and I love'em. There are some quality pieces out there and IMO the key is not to get suckered into the velocity hype, especially with spring piston guns. I can shoot any time I want, as much as I want, and good quality pellets are dirt cheap compared to powder ammo.

The smartest thing I've read in this thread. Airguns have their place, and had I not put literally 10,000+ pellets through my old Chinese Model 61 every summer as a kid, I might not be as completely obsessed with the shooting sports today. I still have a few airguns, and a at least a couple I'll never sell...but they don't see much use these days. It's just as easy to use a .22lr where I shoot, but I'll never be without an airgun or two.

As for the velocity race~it's like the megapixel race with digital cameras. People assume bigger is better. .177 pellets aren't even stable @ 1,200 fps from what I've read. I don't own an air rifle that shoots over 600fps.

Airguns are fun, they can get expensive and they do require a little more intellegence to operate effectivley than powder burners but don't be discouraged. I paid $165.00 delivered for mine, I've tuned it thoroughly, choked and recrowned the barrell, polished the spring ends, deburred and polished the piston and receiver, polished and lubed the trigger and made a new stock from scratch. It's a blast to shoot, very quiet and very accurate in the 30yd range. You can't have that much fun with a powder burner unless your a gunsmith.

So what's everyone using for an air rifle that you are having consistent accuracey with and has a MV in the area of 650 to 1000 fps? I never really dabbled much with air rifles, as I've been shooting a .22 powder burner since a young age... My first trek into air rifles was a miserable failure... I'd like to have one that shoots well, but I don't know many people who have one... So if you have a good air rifle shout out whatcha got.. :)

This is my Hatsan AT44 10-22. It is a 10 shot repeater, 22 cal, precharged pneumatic. Shoots from 350 to 970 feet per second with standard lead pellets. When tuned to shoot at 800 plus fps, you can easily get 80 shots before velocity drops below 800 fps. Excellent accuracy, nice trigger.

^^^^ I like that... How long have you had it?

Umm, something like last fall I bought it? Real accurate at 25 yards. Like 10 shots into a dime with crosman pellets. Shoots through 6 tuna tins and stops on the 7th.

Now that's what I'm looking for right there.... There's so many darn air guns out there it's almost impossible to muddle through the info and reviews... This kind of info is what I'm looking for, somone who's had it for a while and can testify to its worthiness... Have you hit any pests with it?
