where i am people dont care if someone is firing a bb or pellet rifle around their house. if i was out shooting a .22 i think id have the police at my door. my pellet rifle is good enough to get rid of any pets i have creeping through my garbage.

Maaaaaybe....... if I had a neighbors dog ripping up my garbage I might consider it. But yes I meant pests.
Spent 3 months trying to rid myself of a racoon that has ripped up a piece of roof tried everything. Firecrackers spraying it in the face with vinigar chasing it with a broom. Then I went home to my parents and got my pellet rifle. 1 shot from it and I never saw it again.

One of my prized possessions is a Hy-Score model 800 that was given to me by my father back in the early 80's(he got it in the late 60's), let me tell you, this air pistol is total quality.

On a more serious note, my Styer LP50 is one of my most expensive handgun to buy... while it's probably the cheapest to own... as it sees the most use.

Why is this thread still up? The OP obviously was expecting to stir some #### up. If people can't see the benefits in air-guns then just let them be ignorant, they only people their harming is themselves. I love shooting my shotguns, high powered, .22lr, and airguns alike. If you do/don't that's your choice. Just respect others choices in the sport as they do yours.

My lazy pipe dream is to get one of the ones with the interchangeable barrels. I agree the Hyscore 800b were the nicest US air pistols ever made.
My lesser dream is to get me a Diana/RWS 6g, they have dried up and Diana does not make them anymore.
Crosmans are ubiquitous, solid, lots of cool parts available (such as very nice steel breeches from Crosman).
I have a .2240, and a Phantom .22 - the Phantom is a very nicely made air rifle - the best value you can get out there for the $. Also have a 1322 that needs love & attention.
Air guns are for tinkerers & I agree about the high powered .177 caliber ones.
Do you know that in the Phillipines and other places in Asia, large caliber pneumatic air rifles (.38 & .50 caliber) are often used with high explosive bolts for better terminal performance on game?
If you can't rely on the intrinsic energy of a heavy bullet going fast like a .30-06, there are other ways to make up the shortfall - of course, this highly dangerous activity is probably on the wrong side of the law even in these grey - area Asian subsistence hunting juristictions.

Airguns have their place just like any other type of gun. They are great for small game. They are great for shooting in limited space or areas where you don't want a loud report. The nice thing about them is that you can use them almost anytime if you live out of town limits; you can shoot targets in your basement safely. They are much more versatile in terms of use because you don't need to get into the car and go to a range or a hunt camp every time you want to do some target practice.
