Didn't I hear about the city hiring someone to deal with wildlife issues in the city?There is a recurring theme in Ottawa with respect to wildlife management.. everyone tripping over themselves in jurisdiction squabbles but none really in charge to deal with issues.
I remember years ago in the Fisher/Meadowlands, Invernes Park area (in Ottawa) a Moose wandered in. The police were chasing it around in the residential neighborhoods
trying to herd or coral it to a safe area. The thing was jumping over yard fences and hedges into people's enclosed back yards in a totally unpredictable manner.
Fricken Dangerous. Most people weren't even aware of what was going on.
I guess they (the police) took that as a lesson.
They said on CJOH news last night that the meat was donated to a Native Organization, but that due to a "delay" in getting the carcass to them, most of the meat and hide were un-usable.
But in conciliation, they had a ceremony to celebrate the life of the elk.

This level of incompetence, at such a high cost to taxpayers, is the really outrageous part of this debacle.
Idiocracy. We get closer every day.
Today the Odawa Native Friendship centre in the building at the spot where this went down was feeding people the elk that had been shot. Sadly, I wasn't there today, so I couldn't partake in the delicious elk meat. I can't comment on how much they managed to save off the animal for eating, I just hear what they did have was pretty tasty. At least the animal wasn't a complete waste.
