It's taken me a day to start this. I still don't know if I'll get my thoughts straight.
I got the call that Mike Yaciuk passed away, apparently in his sleep. Mike was one of the good guys. He loved to come out and play. It didn't matter if it was PPC, IPSC, or just plinking. He came out to play and socialize in equal parts, and that pretty much sums up his whole life.
Mike seems to have been able to go through life working hard, but always finding time to play hard. I started out as a friend, and wound up an employee for a while. When Mike found himself with more work than help, he gave me the opportunity to make extra cash when I'd been laid of to only part-time. Years later when he'd sold the business to his son Bob, he once again called to see If i could help out.
It was never dull working for his or his sons company. I lost track of the number of time that people would stop out of the blue and come looking for Mike when they saw the truck. It would seem Mike rarely had just customers. They all seemed to morph into friends. He was in business, but he always seemed to put the personal contact up front. He made sure the customer knew what was really going on, and made sure they were comfortable with the money they spent.
His son Bob would probably be both proud and embarassed to see how close to the mold he is from the old man.

Of Holland Landing. Born June 15, 1935 in the Northern Manitoba community of Zbarez. Mike was very adventurous and active in his entire life until the morning he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Easter Sunday 2006. He was the proud owner of Pomeroy's and White Water Softeners since 1972. Today, his sons are still carrying on the family business. One of his many passions included target shooting which he excelled to the top of his class and received many awards and accolades at the expert level. He was also an active member of the Bradford Curling Club where he often spoke of good friends and good times. Over his 70 years, Mike's many accomplishments have included obtaining his solo pilot's license, parachuting at the young age of 62, hang gliding, soaring, wood carving and inventing. He travelled extensively around the world and most recently returned from tours of Greece, Italy and Africa. Loved by his three children, Robert (Cheryl), Tracey (Harvey) Rudyk and their two children Krystal and Kirsten of North Battleford, SK., and Bradley (Lindsay) of Newmarket ON. Mike will be sadly missed by his many friends and relatives.
