We need to make up a 'Canadian' rifle

I am thinking more of the 500 S&W, 475 Lindebaugh, 460 S&W et al. Duplicating the performance of some 45/70 loads. I feel like these "super pistol" chamberings may take the 300-400 grain bullet at moderate velocities crown from the older cartridges, while potentially doing it in a shorter barrel. Not only that, many are rimmed for a single shot action, which is my current flavour of the week.

I don't see how .44 mag and 45 colt handloaded in a strong action would work any differently for a 30/30 lever for me, besides having cheaper ammo.

We are talking pretty theoretical here; 14-16 inch barrels. Though I suppose .308's do come in those lengths.

I've had .475 Linebaugh, in revolver and Ruger No.1. You end up tossing potatoes that kill fine but shock less than a measly .270, far less impressive kills and a 1/4 the useful range. A 16" Ruger .308 makes it looks utterly useless if you're after short guns, but they are fun, and different. There really isn't anything they do better however, they don't bowl game over as many presume, in fact while they'll kill 100% reliably they will typically do so less impressively at the hit, which goes against popular conception for big handgun chamberings. There's a reason the .577 black powder expresses, 8, and 4 bores went instantly obsolete when "small" bore Nitro chamberings arrived; not only are the smaller, faster rounds better on game they're easier to hit game with. Pistol chambering carbines are decidedly a hobbiest's endeavour, they can work, and produce modest recoil for the lethality and limited muzzle blast. In some more densely populated settings with short shots I can envision a utility, for most of the West it strikes me as being similar to wearig leg weights on a mountain hunt for sport.

red and white pepperjack laminate wood?
skinner sites with a top rail for quick release optics?

dont ya think a 22 mag would be a little under powered?

I think it's a Howa 1500 action with a stainless 24" 366 Wagner made in Alberta barrel with iron sights and a brown laminate stock.

Posting partial pictures of a Unimog in here is like your girl showing you a new box from Victoria Secret but never wearing it for you....

I have big plans for the unimog and my ATRS Canadian made rifles for the last 4 years I have bin working jury hunting season working the oil pach it has Allowed me to Get sum pretty amazing hunting equipment but left me with no time for hunting or fishing
So this spring the unimog and my Spey rods are heading for the skeena river for steelhead fishing
Spear hunting Haida Gwaii deer early fall
I have never hunted elk so this fall it is going to be my personal mission to get that first elk !
it's only taking me 49 years to get around to it Haahaa

Make the butt stock out of a traditional wooden canoe paddle. Extra long barrel so you can get some leverage when paddling. Maybe a varmint barrel too so its thick enough to get a good grip on. It'll need a sling too for those long portages.

image.jpgI’ve got the Canadian rifle now. A Cooey 710 in 30-06. Serial # just under 11000. Generic good for everything rifle that’s not too pretty to use.
