We need to support Maxime Bernier

I like a number of Mike Chong's positions on issues. I also think that with the Libs veering far Left and the NDP reacting by going even farther Left, the middle ground is up for grabs. But he's a very Red Tory and he said this:

"Proposing to make the AR-15 unrestricted — a variant of which was used at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut to kill 20 children aged 6 and 7 and six adults in 2012 — is an extreme policy"

Sorry, Mike, but no thanks. That kind of silly nonsense means that you will not be marked as any choice on my ballot. As if that lunatic at Sandy Hook couldn't have done what he set out to do with a Remington Model 8 or a baseball bat for that matter. Chong is jumping on the "blame the gun" bandwagon where he shares space with the irrational fools of the Coalition for Gun Control.
Remember, Chong lives on a farm. He says that he's very familiar with firearms, but he doesn't see why anyone "needs" an AR-15. He certainly sounds like one of those FUDDs who would throw the rest of the firearms community under the bus.
I'm all for reasonable compromise and working with others with different points of view, but I have the distinct impression that Chong would be very happy to adopt positions of people and organizations that would continue to trample on our rights and freedoms.

Nobody does 'need' an AR for personal use. Lots of people 'want' one. Do I think they're evil and should be banned, no.

Well, I kinda need it to compete, but I take your point. It's sorta like no one really "needs" more than a couple of really sharp knives in his/her kitchen at once. And no longer than, say, 6 inches. Not that I want to ban them or anything. But maybe we need some rules...

Everyone seems to be missing the main issue here. It means squat what his position on firearms is. He will not get a majority as he is somewhat of an unknown outside Quebec. He's not the person they need to defeat "sunny ways", that persons the interim leader and has effectively shut herself out of the position she could do most good in. Let's face it, if the Conservatives can't come up with n appealing electoral platform, and by appealing I mean pandering to the millennials, they don't have a prayer. I think the last provincial election in Ontario proves my theory. We firearms owners COULD make a difference if we vote as a block. But, being Canadian we'll all sit around and ##### ##### ##### about it and do ####. And, the petition to remover the AR from the banned list proves THAT theory. Before you pooh pooh me, check the final tally on that petition and then check the membership numbers in this forum alone. If we can't get firearms owners to sign a freakin online petition, how the hell are we going to get them to vote???

I would have voted for Rona Ambrose too. I like her and wish the leadership thing had been handled differently.

Pandering to the millennials?

In other words, let's become the Red Tories/Liberal Party II again right? No thanks.

The Liberals will continue to focus their 'attack' on the law abiding while the canadian criminal justice system mollycoddles violent criminals and psychos.
In canada mark lapine had he not taken his own life would probably have been released as 'cured' and out walking the streets with homulka and the bus head hunter.
Gamil gharbi would not have been released as he shot his victims dead. Here in Calgary a guy stabbed five of his friends to death and walked.
