Do the Boyds stocks fit on the S2 rifles or just the original ones? When I last went to their site it only lists the Vanguard with no distinction if it's the S1 or S2 or if they fit into the same stocks. I tried to contact them to get clarification before ordering but I got no reply. I was assuming they both fit but I didn't want to order one and find out differently.

I have a not often seen variation of this rifle. It's a Mossberg 1500 (rebadged Howa 1500) and while it has a wood stock,I find it lighter than a vanguard s2.Mine is a .30/06 and shoots awesome.

Great to hear! I just installed some williams iron sights, and pulled the hogue stock off and relieved it a bit around the fore end so it doesn't contact the barrel at all when holding the gun and chopped 1" off the end to reduce the LOP.
Bought some hornady 300 grain DGX as it was all I could find. I'm gonna pull the bullets and plop some 300 grain partitions on them instead. Can't find brass nor any 270grain TSXs anywhere though.
Actually you have that backwards, Howa in Japan is the manufacturer and they sell to Wby and used to sell to Mossberg and once upon a time Smith and Wesson marketed a rifle on the Howa action...........just for clarification..........
I heard they had some problems with their site recently. I went on it this morning and although the Vanguard and Vanguard S2 are listed separately when you go through the selection process the same part number comes up for both. That makes sense because the only real changes between the two is the trigger and some hot melt glue bedding on the new ones.
Just for fun, I popped the stock off one of my S2s and dropped it into a Tupperware take-off from an older Vanguard. It fits perfectly and was a chance to wipe off the hidden metal of the Lazerguard.

Huh.? The mossberg is just a howa 1500 badged as a mossberg 1500.I think you misread and thought i said mossberg was the manufacturer.
I zero'd my .243 this weekend.
Report - This rifle is awesome!!
Con's : Only 2 issues - which are not really issues.
It's a little on the heavy side. With a bi-pod on it, likely upwards of 10lbs.
90 degree bolt throw. (The shorter throw on say an X-bolt is nicer - but that's really splitting hairs.)
Pro's :
The 2-stage trigger on this thing is absolutely amazing!! It's got a wonderful, crisp release that surprises on every shot.
The stock - With their "Gryptonite" grips. The grippy parts are great, and the stock feels like you could hit it with a train and the train would lose! The gun feels VERY solid!
Shooting - The BEST part of this rifle!! The .243 is wonderful to shoot. Has a little recoil but you could shoot it all day long.
Accuracy is insane. I can hit a dime repetitively at 100 yards with this gun. Weatherby says it's a SUB-MOA rifle. They should have said it's sub SUB MOA!! 3 round groups barely a half inch. (I was using cheap Winny 80gr rounds)
I highly recommend this shooter. GREAT price and GREAT results.
I can't wait to do some long range shooting with it. Will report back when the time comes.
