Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 sale 43% off

I have mine sanded and scuffed but have no acetone on hand. I do however, have isopropyl alcohol 99% on hand. Will this do?

I gave mine a light sanding just to scuff the surface, thoroughy cleaned it and then three coats of white Krylon primer giving lots of time for each to dry, end result being a totally white stock to paint.... no show-through of old color.

I think a good clean with the isopropyl alcohol and you should be good to go!

All I did to clean my stock was to use citrus based cleaner diluted with water. A wipe down with a lint free towel moistened with this cleaner followed by a dry cloth wiping took all of the residue from the stock prep. Just before painting, I blew off any dust with compressed breathing air.

For plastic stocks, one must know through testing, that certain chemicals will attack & break down the chemical matrix of the composite that the items are made of. Alcohol & acetone are harmful to many of the plastics made today for gun stocks. These cleaners, along with stuff like lacquer thinner, I would not advise for use on synthetic stocks.

That said, lacquer thinner easily removes the hydro dipped coating from the sling swivel studs.:)

I had a chance to get out to the range with the new S2 from this sale. It is my first weatherby must say I am impressed with it. Between the weight and the way the stock fit me the recoil was very mild for a .270. I could go for the recoil pas being a little squishier, either that or a bit more rounded, but it worked well as is.

Accuracy was better than I expected, and I don't doubt in the right hands the MOA guarantee is very achievable. The plastic stock is better than some I have seen, not the best I have encountered either, but worked well enough as is that I don't feel the need to replace it just yet.

As for the colour... I'm not sure if It's growing on me, or if it's like going nose blind to bad smells, but I'm not finding it as offensive as I did out of the box. My biggest complaint about the graphics (other than that they're awful) is that the seem on the dip is at the top, where it's very noticeable, I would have preferred it to be on the under side so there wasn't an obvious seem along the top.

How about Grande Prairie? Any there?

You will probably have to call the store directly and ask as I don't think the online system is that great with Wholesale. The ones recently at the Calgary location were not entered into the online system.

I'll take some better pictures tomorrow Ted, just had major spinal surgery yesterday, got home today so taking it very, very easy..

Aug 14 2013 I had a full fusion and disk replacement L4-L5, I can sympathize Kevan. Best wishes.

If they have you on pain meds, narcotics, think of those as a necessary evil, or a product of the devil himself. I had a very hard time getting off those. My surgery had some complications and am just now, despite what my doctors recommend, kicking them to the curb. I hope you are stronger than I was. Most likely you are lol.

I would recommend you look at the writings of Dr. Stuart McGill from the University of Waterloo. I'd venture to say he's one of the best people in the world for managing back pain. I bought a two of his books and they have been awesome in helping me deal with back issues that I've have.

Used acetone to remove the dip film and white primer. Did a do-it-myself rattle can, redneck Kryptek paint job "Krypneck". Getting lots of compliments and I'm proud of it. Wish I could post some pics and share but... Got a link of how to post pics?
