Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 sale 43% off

There is a beat up original vanguard for $450 right now.

I've got a .270 original vanguard up on the EE for more than that... But it's bedded into a Boyd's stock, and has a Timney trigger. :)

I'm going to part the darn thing out, I guess. Put it back in the original stock, reinstall the original trigger, and basically give it away.

I really like Vanguards, but I switched almost completely to Tikkas.

As stated not even in the same league. These Vanguards are a Howa 1500 action which is essentially a licenced clone of 1960s Sako L series actions.

When they were first made in the '70's they were a Sako clone, they changed the design several times since and not really anything Sako left in there.

I did some research how to remove hydro dip and many use acetone on guns or soda blasting or some kind of paint remover like Kleen Strip Premium Paint Stripper.

That camo does grow on you!

Picked up a .223 last week. Thanks to the OP for the heads up. A great deal indeed. Was determined to paint over the stock ... guy at the WSS counter said believe it or not it grows on you. Folks on this thread said it grows on you. I took it with a grain of salt.

Pulled it out today to mount some bases and an old Bushnell 3200 10x40 scope I had laying around, and was set up to paint the stock. Well, scope is mounted, bore sighted and the stock is still stock.

I am loving the look of this Blaze camo, much to my surprise. Will not be painting over it.

By the way, I used Rem 700 Burris Xtreme tactical bases and Leupold QRW bases. Lapped the rings and bore sighted. Scope was dead on zero with no adjustment ... that has only happened to me a few times and I have mounted tons of scopes (used to work at a gun counter). Was expecting it to be way off based on reports of the 700 rear base needing to be shimmed - but these bases seemed to be ok. Will see when we put some rounds down the tube. Scope was zeroed on a .308 before. Thanks again to the OP for the head up. Ugly is the new beautiful in my safe!

Yes, that pretty much sums up my feelings about the stock.... it grows on you.
And another thing... when its leaning against a tree and you have dressed your deer, it won't be hard to find...

The long actions can be converted to mag feed for around $100....

So with all of the ones bought, you guys do realize we need to make a special thread in the hunting forum dedicated to pictures of the blaze rifle with critters killed this fall right?
