Weatherby Vanguards Accuracy Guarantee

My referring to another artical where they used 18 different loads of 3 shot groups and the savage rifle averaged 1.08" basically 1" . This artical was not about the cheaper savage package series gun!! 18 different loads and still 1" and you couldn't get tighter than 1 1/2 with 4 savages!!!!!!!

Regards, George

The smallest single grouping was 5/8th of an inch in the 11F article, what about all the others, they don't count?

I did get in under an inch occasionally with my savages, but it would seldom duplicate it. Out of 5 groupings about an 1 1/2 was closer to the norm. The calibers I had were, 308, 7mm, 300 win, and 223... It was not a consistant MOA shooter.. I don't take the one single smallest grouping and totally forget about all the others..

The gun magazine also said the Remington 710 got a smaller average grouping, does that make it a better rifle ?

Yet I have no problem get consistancy from the Sako, Rem, Kimber and the Vanguards and Tikkas. Does this mean they are better than the Savage, not really.... The savages were OK, but by no means outshot any of these others I own.

Savage does make great Varmint rigs like the Series 12 Low profile Varminter up in the 800 to 1000 range that shoot tight and consistant but I did not find it in their light barrelled hunting rifles but I would expect it from a 10lb heavy barrelled Varmint rig.

Buy all the savages you want, TIMO still has an awesome looking and shooting Vanguard that he does not need to trade in for a Savage.

Making statements like all Savages will outshoot everything else and they are all submoa shooters, will its just funny to hear.....

I find that funny too. Pretty much any hunting rifle made by any of the best makers in the world with the best bbls can easily go to 2" with crap ammo or ammo that it dosen't like.

Sub MOA...??? with what ammo...all?

I don't think so.

I've had a few Savage sporters but none shoot anywhere near as good outa the box as this .257 Weatherby mag. Vanguard Deluxe I bought a few weeks ago. Those are all five shot groups @ 100 yds, notice they are all smaller than the scope caps.:) And I don't even like Weatherbys!

I had excellent results using IMR 7828 65.0grs with 120 Noslers seated to 3.170....

What loads were you using....

Where did you pick up the Deluxe model from?

Myles, Just cruising the gunshops in Edmonton and saw it in Phoenix gunshop. $75 cheaper than at the 2 other main gunshops and it had nicer wood than the others. (the wood sucked me in;) ). I shot those groups with 117gr. hornady ROUNDNOSE soft points of all things, 65gr. of H-4831. Stoney Point OAL at the ogive of 2.821. The trigger sucks on this rifle, creepy&heavy but I've since touched it up a bit. It also likes 100gr triple shocks and shoots them nearly as well. Took a while to shoot those groups letting the barrel cool completely between shots and there was no wind that day. The barrel break in consisted of a couple patches through the new bore to make sure it was clear to shoot and then 3 boxes of factory shells shot over three days not letting the barrel get hot. Borescope showed it was not fouled much, very little copper layed down, gave it some solvent and a good brushing and it cleaned right up, havent cleaned it since. Round count is up to 140 now.

Its really nice stock on that one.... The triggers are not the greatest, you can always put a Timneys trigger on it, they are well worth the cash...

I agree it sure is a nice Deluxe Oscar has as well.
And I also agree my trigger needs work or go to a Timneys. Sounds like a winter project to me :D .
Oscar if you read this please let me know what adjustments you made to your trigger.
Like Oscar I fell in love with the wood as I am a traditional wood stock fan.:dancingbanana:

Hopefully I can post some nice game shots this year with this rifle.

Cheers to everyone... even you evil savage owners;) :p .
