"The Weatherby® Vanguard® rifle is guaranteed to shoot a 1 1/2" 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel"

Well first off I have to say Mr T.Yamaoka is a better shot than I. :D

But I have field testing conditions as my excuse :p

Weatherby Vanguard deluxe .30-06, Leupold 3.5-10 x 50mm VX-III
150 grain bullets

2nd time out at the range I am happy with the way this rifle shoots.

Weather conditions: sunny , 24 Celcius slight 5-8 km wind from right to left

Like I said I am happy with this group at 100 yards
And for a Redneck Beer Bellied Calgary Alberta Hunter I say good enough, :dancingbanana:

Cheers

2 weeks untill I go huntn'

Weatherby makes the Sub- MOA Vanguard as well and is guranteed to be under 1 inch.

Nice shooting, doesn't feel good to get a rifle that shoots well right off the bat. :) I never seem to be lucky like that!!

Cheers!!

Buy a Savage or a Tikka! Tikka nicer looking savage shoots better!

And for that guarantee weatherby charges a huge premium over the standard vanguard. However for hundreds of dollars less than the vanguard sub moa,you can buy a tikka t-3.All tikka and sako rifles must shoot a 5 shot group of 1" or less before being sold. The weatherby guarantee is for 3 shots.

I just stated what they offer, I could not care if it was $1000 more.

Have you guys ever thought that maybe this gentleman does'nt want a T3 or a Savage??

I was just stating that other companies offer a better guarantee for less money. The original poster already has his rifle, but other people may be interested in what accuracy guarantees are available.

From my perspective, I will never buy a Wby Vanguard BECAUSE of their guarantees.

If the factory has done their job properly, any reg. Vanguard will be an 1 to 1.5 MOA AT BEST. The real good ones have already been pulled into the SUB MOA line for almost double the price.

I like the idea that a factory rifle today can shoot SUB MOA without costing a fortune ( I play with alot of Savage/Stevens rifles). If I want to spend a fortune, I will build a tack driver and use a quality pipe.

For what they want for a reg Wby Vanguard, there are a whole host of competing products that you have a chance of getting a much better shooter.

Bad move on Wby part...

One must remember that when they test fire the rifles its clamped in a vise, in an indoor range. I went from owening Winchesters & Savages to all Vangaurds now. Best bang for the buck. Love the 5 rnd capasity on the .308

I found the Tikka accuracy at the Berretta site but it has now been changed to a three shot 1" group while the sako accuracy guarantee remains at 5 shots into 1".
This change has happened within the last month or so as it used to be question 43 under ask a question.I have actually just e-mailed Beretta asking why the change was made to their accuracy guarantee on tikka rifles. It might be interesting to see what they have to say.

So with the change the standard for all tikka rifles is now 3 shots into 1" or less as stated at your link. That is still 50% better than the accuracy for the standard vanguard and within .01" of the accuracy of the vanguard sub moa but for several hundred dollars less than the sub moa.

From the weatherby website

Each SUB-MOA rifle is test-fired, hand-selected and shipped with a factory-shot target and written guarantee to shoot .99" or less (3-shot group at 100 yards) when used with specific Weatherby factory or premium ammunition.

So the guarantee is for .99" not for 3/4 moa.

You would never have known about Tikka's guarantee with the brand new 30-06 I was trying out the other evening. 5 brands of ammo, and no group under 1½". Some were horrible, up to 2½" but then again, some ammo does better than others. I thought maybe it was me, but I shot my own M700, and shot a sub MOA group right away, so guess they send out a bummer once in awhile as well. A friend's experience with Beretta has not been the best either. Think I'll just stay with what I know, and to heck with the fancy guarantees!! ;) :D Regards, Eagleye.

I know how you feel.I bought two mark Vs during a store closeout many years ago thinking that the weatherby name would guarantee great accuracy.I was extremely disappointed in the accuracy of both, but since I bought them for a greatly reduced price,it wasn't hard to sell them.Neither was as accurate as even my factory 700s,let alone my sako rifle. Now I prefer to have my rifles built for not a great deal more than the cost of a mark V and I haven't been disappointed with the accuracy of any of them.

However,I still feel that the standard non sub moa vanguards and the howa 1500s offer great value for the price.Timo's gun is just one example of the great values for the price. However,I would never pay the huge premium for a vanguard sub moa.

I've only messed with 2 Mark 5s, both the new made in USA ones. Both very accurate, the 378 shot under an inch with 300 TSXs over 3000fps for an average. My 338/378 is doing sub. inch with the hunting load I settled on for this year. Very little developement and 3450 fps with the 210 TSX. The 378 was factory bedded and the 338/378 is just rattleing around in the factory synthetic stock with no bedding. I'll bed it after the season. At least the new WBYs seem to have great barrels.
