Hey guys
Looking to get into the precision game but need some expert advice.
I want to get a new rifle, I currently have a browning blr in 270wsm but want something that's bolt action around $700, heavy barrel and suitable for long range.
This gun would be for long range punching paper but I also wouldn't mind taking it put on a couple coyote wolf and possibly deer hunts.
Anyways I was looking at the weatherby wby-x kryptek highlander rifle and it seems like a good rifle guaranteed sub moa at an affordable price. But I also was looking at the Remy 700 sps and they feel and act quite the same.
Is the weatherby a good platform for starter. I know the aftermarket isn't as good as Remy or even savage. The main things I want to do is a dbm to accept aics mags, a stock or chassis and a good scope base.

What you all think?

Yes, it is a good starter rifle. Howa 1500 is the same rifle and might be a bit cheaper. MDT makes chassis system that fits them and they use Remington 700 bases. I was going to build up a .223 Rem but decided on a different project...

Yeah I like the mdt chassis route but you can only use their mags and not aics. Then I was thinking a good stock and have a cdi precision dbm but you have to trim down this one part, and you can fit aics mags no problem.

Is it worth the extra work to do that or would a savage or Remy be a better suit?
Weatherby does guarantee the sub moa but could that just be a marketing thing. I would like to shoot out to 1000 yards but of course I can't do that right away, gotta work small and go my way up

I have four Vanguard II's which is the same action/barrel etc that you get on the Wby-X (they are just funky looking Vanguards).

ALL of them have been sub-moa guns, out of the box with cheap off the shelf ammo (save my 257 - there is no "cheap" ammo for that on the shelf anywhere). My 243 shoots 5/8" groups with Federal Blue box 80 grain soft points. My 7.08 and 25.06 are no different at 3/4" groups even with my shaky shooting (front supported).

ATI makes aftermarket mag kits for all the standard and "non-Wby" magnums - can get them with 5 or 10 round mags (available through IRun Guns and Prophet River to name a couple).

Of course, you could go with the "new for 2016" Vanguard with the Modular Chasis http://www.weatherby.com/products/rifles/vanguard/vanguardr-modular-chassis.html but it will run you about three times the cost of the Wby-X stuff which has been mostly discontinued so should start selling at a discount as vendors dump it.

I'm assuming that's at 100 yards right?
Would the .243 be capable enought to shoot out to 1000 yards and even be able to hunt at say 600-800 yards or should I bump up to .308? Or something else
looking at he ballistic charts on the back of the ammo boxes in store the .243 shoots flatter than the .308 which I like

If you are looking to shoot out to 600 or beyond I would be looking at a 308 at least.
