Weatherbys Mk Vs... thoughts?

In my view, if a person wants an example of a Weatherby MkV, he wants to find a German model in 300 Weatherby. That is the classic MkV. If a person wants a MKV which performs a little better, he will want to find a Japanese model (made by Howa, by the way) in the same caliber. It will have a vastly better trigger and thanks to better throat dimensions, will probably shoot better and be more tolerant of different bullets. The German rifles were fairly picky. If you find a German MK V, and want to improve it, you'll want to hunt for a Canjar trigger to replace the factory turkey.

I think most people buy the best performing mark V not sure why you would counsel to buy the worst one[/QUOTE]

Simply because that is the MK V which represented the brand for many years. It was the original. Apart from the POS trigger, it was fine rifle. The stock work was better than on the Jap models. The overly generous freebore was eventually accepted to be detrimental but it was part of Weatherby's system at the time. So, while I think the Japanese model is superior overall, the German model has more historic value and, as stated, the woodwork was better. In a sense, it is like buying a Pre-war model 70. It may not be the best of the Model 70's, from a purely technical standpoint, but it has panache.

20221130_142811.jpgi had a misfire on my 9 lug mark V. Not a light strike. The striker is about twice the weight of the ones on my other rifles including my 6 lug mark V.i suppose that means slower lock time but i havent noticed it

Some were made in America by Pacific Founders too IIRC. They are beautiful guns, it is no wonder why the government wants to steal them from you.

I’ve got 5 Weatherby Mark V’s including a German 300 WBY that my late uncle bought NIB and handed down to me which is super accurate.

Disarmament is their goal, no different than Chavez in Venezeula, or every other socialist dictatorship in the 20th century.
If they could get away with banning everything at once they'd have done that. But they can't, so they need to do it in steps. Like boiling a frog.

Exactly, the other frogs will just sit and watch the first frog boil, and then the next, until it is their turn.

Some will say they aren't known for accuracy, Most will do under 1moa with factory ammo.. I have two hand loads that get me under 1/2 inch.. .best one has done .349
If you need more than that out of a hunting rig you are a better shot than me.. as for being pricey.. doesn't matter what the thing is there's always going to be a lower priced version and a higher priced version. You can buy a $40k Ford or a $130K Land Rover but they both get you from A to B..

After reading the extractor thread, I looked at my weatherby 9 lug bolt to see what the heck. I found that the extractor is on the leading edge of the bolt lug as it turns into its recess. This means it sits backed up by steel instead of sitting in space beside the lug raceway. I think this is why the Mark V lugs are not spaced at even 120 degree intervals like the Sako 3 lug I have. The lug with the extractor is backed up a bit. Any other action I've seen except for savage and winchester push feed have the extractor on the trailing side of the lug
