Weatherbys Mk Vs... thoughts?

Well for the OP. The mkv is amazing. I have had many and they are very nice. Accuracy is good to great on mine. My wife has one in 7mm wby and it is very accurate even after enough rounds through it that the internet says it can’t be. It was the most accurate gun in the house for more than a decade but we recently got a couple that beat it out for small groups. And non of our accurate guns were ever Vanguards. We do have a couple and they take more effort to make shoot. Maybe the caliber more than the guns. I guess in the end I don’t hunt with Weatherby right now but wouldn’t hesitate.

One of my FAVOURITE rifles is my WBee MK 5 Ultralight in 240 WB Mag - the 6 lug action is a BEAUTY ! It’s Very accurate always 5 shots under 3/4 “ .
It wears a Leupold VX 6-18 x40 CDS 30 mm scope in TalleyLW rings .

I also have a WBee MK5 9 lug rebarreled with a Benchmark fluted 1-9 twist and chambered in 300 PRC . RJ

I myself know of maybe three locals that own some kind of Weatherby. I have yet to hear any of them complain of accuracy issues of anything worth griping about.

It's interesting to note that I am fairly certain Browning got sued by Weatherby as thier BBR was found to be copyright infringement.

Wow, talk about everyone getting their knickers in a knot over nothing. Guys, the new OIC stuff has been in place for over 2 years already pertaining to over 20mm bores and 10,000 joules. Anyone able to log into the FRT can see that Ruger No 1's, Weatherby Mk V's and so on are only prohibited if chambered in the specific caliber that is too high of muzzle energy. All the "regular" under 10,000 joules cartridges are still non restricted.

Always wanted to try a stainless 6 lug short action mkV

Saw one in 7-08 with a 21” barrel in a mcmillan sako classic stock. Looked real neat!

Of course the amendment to C-21 never addresses this confusion. Hoping persons will make significant decisions based on errored information.

I think you have that flipped around. The Mark V was 1" and the Vanguard was 1.5" until the Series 2.

The Mark V was 1-1/2" for many years, including the German and Japanese made versions.

https://faq.weatherby.com/what-accuracy-prefix

All other Mark V® rifles with a 5 digit numeric number, B, C, H, M, P, S, AB, AS, BP, BW, PB, SB, SS, SW, WB, WS, as well as all other Vanguard® rifles with serial numbers beginning with V, VL, VS, or VX, are guaranteed to shoot a 1 1⁄2” or better 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby® factory ammunition within Two-Years of Verified Purchase Date to Original Purchaser.

Those serial numbers include most of the Mark V rifles, up until 2016, when they did some improvements to the Mark V, and changed the accuracy guarantee. The Vanguard 2 came out in 2011, so for about 5 years, all Vanguards all had a moa guarantee while the Mark V was still 1-1/2" .

The updated gun features a hand-lapped barrel, ergonomic stock, and a sub-M.O.A. guarantee.

You need to flip that back the mark V was 1.5 when the vanguard had a 1 inch guarantee. I like my markV it is quality made and very ergonomic. When I hear "for what you get" I wonder what price means to people, my MarkV seems more like an expensive rifle than my cooper did, the cooper was built like a remington with multipiece bolt and brazed bolt handle, tube receiver and washer recoil lug, Yet nobody was saying cooper's are too much for what you get

Fair enough, I forgot about the Sub MOA versions they used to make which turned into the Vanguard RC.

Which the Weatherby Mark V is.

Not without a 460 barrel on it, it isn't. Let's not, for a change, be foolish.
In my view, if a person wants an example of a Weatherby MkV, he wants to find a German model in 300 Weatherby. That is the classic MkV. If a person wants a MKV which performs a little better, he will want to find a Japanese model (made by Howa, by the way) in the same caliber. It will have a vastly better trigger and thanks to better throat dimensions, will probably shoot better and be more tolerant of different bullets. The German rifles were fairly picky. If you find a German MK V, and want to improve it, you'll want to hunt for a Canjar trigger to replace the factory turkey.

Lol you said it!

Never been especially interested in weatherby rifles or chamberings. The styling is not for me

I had to reconsider when I saw a weatherby safari in person. I don’t think this actually the right model name, it had more of an English style stock, no rollover comb or square fore end. Beautiful gun

Where in the bill does it state "...capable of 10,000 joules, but only with a 460 barrel on it..."
Let's not for a second be foolish enough to believe they don't want this bill and future amendments to capture every single firearm in legal owners' hands.

The problem Bill, is that isn't how they wrote it. I agree with your choices in Mk V's though. Very much so. - dan
