Grossly over priced for what you get in my opinion. Their wood stocks have nicely painted grain on them to make them pretty and their blueing is nice for sure. The MK V is not renowned for accuracy, to some this is not as important as the looks. To me accuracy is everything. YMMV

I have had amazing luck with the mark V's. They fit me very well, and I haven't saw any that weren't shooters, although I am aware others have had concerns with accuracy. I received a new Mark V hunter this year in 280 AI, and it fits, points and shoots fantastically. The stock is designed very well, and weight is perfect for my needs.

The only disparaging news I ever heard of the Mk V is a variance in trigger mechanism material.
That the West German built rifle used a synthetic material in the trigger housing that is prone to cracking.
However the Japanese version actually used a metal trigger housing(?) Pretty much impossible to crack in the same place.

Very good rifles, strong actions, the newer ones come with trigger tech triggers from the factory.

There are so many options to choose from, lightweight rifles all the way to heavier barrel models. The 54 degree bolt nice with lots of scope clearance. As accurate as any modern bolt in the same price range, even budget rifles can be accurate these days. All depends on the shooters skills and quality of rounds/reloads.

My opinion as well. I have owned two Mark V rifles, and accuracy was very disappointing. On the other hand, my Howa made Vanguards were more accurate, for less than half the price.

You're missing a big part in your statement.
This is the heading pertaining to the Weatherby Mark V and many others...
"96. Any firearm capable of discharging a projectile with a muzzle energy greater than 10 000 joules — other than one referred to in item 12, 13, 14, 20, 22 or 30 of this schedule or one designed exclusively for the purpose of neutralizing explosive devices — including the:"

well the list doesnt say so ... like number 1 for ruger if it can shoot it is on the list not by caliber but by design.

Any rifle than can safely shoot .30-06 can be rechambered to a cartridge that can exceed 10,000 joules at least once. That's the biggest issue with C21

But it's not banned unless it exceeds that muzzle energy. The only weatherby chambering that meets the criteria is the 460 Weatherby Mag.

They banned the Brazilian M1908 Mauser AFAIK those were only chambered in 7x57. This is any gun that is strong enough to chamber a cartridge in 10,000 j. Beside Ruger No.1 they don't say it's .460 WM only. I think if the receiver and bolt are strong, it's done.

Explain the Brazilian Mauser 1908, Mauser Sporter and Ruger No 1? To my knowledge, none of these were ever dactory chambered in a 10,000 Joule cartridge.

I'm still using a German built Mk V 300 Wby from the early 60's. No issues so far.- dan

It's in the same category as the Weatherby Mark V. So the cartidge that would meet the criteria is .458 Win Mag
