Better yet.. lets trade VZ's.. you can have my krylon'd one with 55k+ rounds through it and half-dozen holes drilled in the receiver and I'll take your new VZ and weather it the old fashioned way.

win-win.. you get to look cool, and I get to reset my 58 clock.

Now there's an offer you can't refuse.

I know there is a rule about personal insults, but that is the stupid thing I've ever heard.

You want to make your rifle looked more used than it is so you can look cool?

no so it looks cool
why is it ok to put all these after market parts on em
buy god forbid you weather it
get bent

your telling me to just go shoot the thing with all the guys here with tacticool 858
all ive done with mine is put a standard folding stock
and yeah i wanna make it look used
looks better that way

geeze why dont you all gang up on me
anyone here with a thought of their own?

No offence, but you can't post something like this and then get sand in your mangina over the responses.

Sure, guys add all sorts of crap to their rifles, but artificially making one look like you've used it is something else entirely. It's your rifle, do whatever you want to it. If you don't want to hear comments, don't post about it on the internet.

i wanted to know if anyone else had done it and i do use it
but it will never see the kind of wear im talking about unless i went to war with it maybe two

i dont imagine you gun looks too cool at all painted
but thats my opinion
and we all know what their like

Whats up with all this ganging up?
Battlefield pickup look is cool.
Dave, check the theakforum.net for more info on what people have done.

throw it down the alley over and over. then drive over it. should work? but really, i have a few 858s. one i don't baby, it rides in my truck behind the seat and has some love markings on it and the paint is bubbled on the barrel from over heating it. its a bush gun! bought it new and will not sell it. i think you should just use it alot and make it yours. all the marks will tell a story.
cheers

I think its dumb to make a gun look weathered so it appears that you know what your doing with it over a new one, I have new looking guns and no one laughs at them, but they will laugh if you miss a target, no one laughs when your extremely good at hiting a target. Making you gun look used is NOT going to make you a better shot or more efficient shooter.

All your doing is kidding yourself
Being weathered is earned through years of commitment and a sentimental bond between you and your rifle. NOT A 15min RIDE IN A DRYER.

Hey dude howd you loose that paint on your receiver, Man what a crazy story i have for you, man i put that thing in a dryer for 15min, damn i love those good ol memories.

awesome story huh, i prefer to remember what caused that scratch or chip, and have a real story to go with it.

But 'weathering' a gun looks cool? Now I'm really confused...

How about this..

Due to a current trend in the market.. Neit Arms co will now be offering a VZ 58 'definishing' service. For the low price of $120 we will take your new 58 and run a bunch of lead swabs down the barrel, drag it around the dirt and mud and generally.. well, USE it for you so you don't have to. Or if you just can't wait for the kind of quality service we are providing you can buy one of our pre-weathered rifles, or for a nominal transfer fee, exchange your rifle from one in our stock. If you want to ensure that your rifle stays in your name, just send it to our facility with half-dozen crates of ammo and we'll break it in for you. We will not be undersold!!!

..or just shoot it.

Giving your rifle a weathered look is no different that people putting on hundreds of dollars of plastic to make it look "tacti-cool" so I have no idea why everyone is giving you such a hard time. If it's done right, it might look nice .. but a half-assed job and it'll prob look like crap and unlike adding some black plastic furniture, you can't just take it off again.

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions to make it look weathered other than using it "a lot" lol.

When I buy a new truck, I like to take a sledge hammer to it and throw buckets of mud on it. It looks like I actually use it off road so my friends won't laugh at me.

Now you see how stupid it sounds.

Davecasey:

Style without substance is meaningless. You really want to be "cool"? Best way is to take that 858 to some hard ass training. Shoot it, drop it, kick sand on it - then shoot it some more. Try different mounts on it, take them off, put them on, drop it in the mud, throw it on concrete, put a bullet hole in one of the mags. Cut the old beaverbarf stock off, put on a folder, put skate tape on it.

The reason all those "worn" rifles are cool, is because they have a story to them.

Rifles and other firearms are meant to be used - period. Those that are "keep on the rack" worthy are the ones to keep in pristine condition. All others are used.

i really don't know how to make it plainer than that.

Shoot it, use it, abuse it, find out what the limit of that platform is. Then you will have a "used" rifle, with a lot of stories to tell, and alot of real experience.
