Style without substance is meaningless. You really want to be "cool"? Best way is to take that 858 to some hard ass training. Shoot it, drop it, kick sand on it - then shoot it some more. Try different mounts on it, take them off, put them on, drop it in the mud, throw it on concrete, put a bullet hole in one of the mags. Cut the old beaverbarf stock off, put on a folder, put skate tape on it.
The reason all those "worn" rifles are cool, is because they have a story to them.
Rifles and other firearms are meant to be used - period. Those that are "keep on the rack" worthy are the ones to keep in pristine condition. All others are used.
i really don't know how to make it plainer than that.
Shoot it, use it, abuse it, find out what the limit of that platform is. Then you will have a "used" rifle, with a lot of stories to tell, and alot of real experience.
