Weight for .223 when hunting

I think he meant larger than .224, which is the rule.

Kinda........I think what I was trying to get out was that .243 cal rifle is the mininum you are allowed to use. I think .243 is OK for deer, but I wouldn't use it on moose or bear. .30 cal is the way to go for that.

A good friend of mine drops hogs all day long in the U.S up to 600 lbs with 75 gr hornady hpbt 1/7 twist, bang flops. Depends all on the shooter.

Here in ontario a .223 is legal, and I would have no problem using one. In southern ontario, we have to use Shotguns, Bows, and Muzzleloaders only, but once you start to head North a couple of hours, you can use Rifle in most places.

Most guys I know use 7.62x39,30-30, or moose sized calibers, like 270,.308,30/06 just because they want to take that "dream" 300 yard shot. Realistically, almost all deer around here are shot at 75-150 yards. If I was dogging, I would have no problem carrying a Mini-14 in .223. Infact, I am thinking about buying a nice light gun just like that for the special purpose of dogging.

come on guys the 223 was a shell ment for human size game ar15 m16 and so on how many deer are bigger then a man .i have seen a lot of deer shot with this round and if hit in the heart lung area it is no problem a rib will not stop a 223 .and the very nice think about then is thy hit were you aim .find a premiam bullit and hit them right DUTCH

It was designed to wound people... not kill... Always remember when one guys dies its one less guys to worrie about, when you wound him tho well you need at least 2 people to carrie him, medical personnel to fix him, etc... I have seen and used the 5.56 (.223) in Afghanistan and no its not even an appropriate round for humans...) anywho I digress, I think the .223 is not suitable for deer however if you do use it and it's legal to do so in your province well I suggest you get the heaviest load you can get!

Myth? Who's gonna pick up Taliban wounded and care for them, or any of the UN, Nato, or even USA adversaries? Much easier to burry dead ones.
