So, ive been reloading for 4-5 years now. So i might just be going senile at 24, or something ive over looked.

What im finding is that after resizing my 308 brass, its hard to chamber a loaded or unleaded round. This being it goes in alright, but when i push the bolt handle down, its hard.

Checked my dies, they are all set up correctly.

Checked the OAL of some that are factory unfired, and those im having trouble with. All are within 3 thou.

Its not seating depth, as i have this weather they are loaded or un loaded.

So, im thinking its the shoulder. But this brass is from federal gold medal, all once fired. I should not have to have shoulder problems after one firing. As far as i know, gold medal is not a hot load.

Any thoughts...

When you say within 3 thou, are they 3 thou over max length? Blacken the case with a marker or soot from a candle flame to see where they are touching. last option try full length sizing to see if they fit then. I assume you are neck sizing.

What kind of rifle is it. I SB resize my buddies 30-06 brass and it will not fit in his Ruger rifle again but is fine in mine. We never have figured out what the difference is as it came out of his gun in the first place. I suspect it grows in length at the shoulder somehow. He prefers factory ammo anyways as he shoots maybe 1 shot a year at most anyways.

None had a COL over. All under. varying by about 3 thou.

They are not SB dies, I am full length.

Nope, chmaber and lug's are spiffy clean.

I turned teh dies in a little more, it made them a little easier to chamber, which is why im thinking shoulder.

Its a savage 111 in 308 WIN.

Fired from that rifle. The brass is a little old, got it back in CFSAC 2011. Shouldnt make any difference.

I tried some federal gold nickel brass, works like butter. So, this is really blowing my mind at this point....

I have seen this before with a chamber that is out of round for some reason, or at least lets the casing bulge a little offset. I discovered that by rotating the brass and trying, it would then eventually fit the chamber. I rebarelled the rifle, as I wasn't going to sell a lemon like that to anyone else.

I'll guess you are not lubricating the inside of the neck properly.
Then, when the expander is pulled out, it stretches the shoulder out a bit.

What you are calling the shoulder is in fact the headspace. Rifle rounds headspace in the middle of the shoulder. If turning the die in made chambering easier then your dies were not set up properly as they were set to give too long headspace. Turn the die in a bit further till the brass chambers properly.

What he said. And the reason the nickle cases you tried work smooth as butter is nothing more than your gold metal brass springing back from sizing a bit more. Adjust your die and perhaps consider annealing.

Rog, thinking its the chamber problem. Ive been reloading enough to know how to set up dies. So im confident thats not the problem, all cases were lub'd inside the neck as well. All the brass was fired in that rifle.

Gonna have the tech's at work take a look for me.

Thanks for the idea's boys.

Check the neck. I noticed that I didn't have my die properly set up and the neck wasn't getting resized properly causing the same problem you have.
