Weird to ask here, but anyone in the Prairies missing a Mini 14?

No auctions with firearms in Canada. They get crushed at the local welding shop under the hydraulic press, scope and all.

I live in a small town and worked at a machine chop a few years back. Every now and then the horsemen would bring in some guns ordered destroyed. I watched an officer hand my coworker a rifle, what followed was a look of absolute dissapointment. He was handed his own rifle to destroy. No ifs ands or buts about it. It had been taken off of a friend of his who had “borrowed” it a few years earlier.

Have it ordered to a CFSC Instructor and made into a safe instructional piece of equipment. That has happened before and there are always instructor looking to fill out their required "arsenal" for their legal purposes.

I’m completely serious here. We recovered one, don’t know the owner. I want it to avoid a visit with the chop saw when court is done.

I posted in the hopes someone may know or remember reading about someone who had theirs stolen. It’s a long shot but why not try.

Or I could just ask the mods to delete it and move on. Let’s play nice.

If it’s report stolen running the serial through a police department will locate the owner. He can get it back that way. It’s an offence not to report / turn in a found firearm.... good luck! Hope things pan out.

Good effort on your part Jon. To be commended if Iinterpret correctly your day job.

I remember buying a few firearms at an OPP sale before the world changed. I don’t see the harm in selling seized and forfeited items to law abiding types, but that seems to have been lost on current decision-makers.

Very good of you to take the time to do this.
Thanks!

A very nice gesture by the OP to try and find the real owner ; but the real owner may not even know that his/her rifle was stolen . Lots of folks keep firearms at their camps , cottages and summer homes for emergency use ; so they may not even know that their rifle was stolen until they go to use it someday . Not really sure what the RCMPs firearm policy is in regards to found firearms ; but too bad that those firearms could not be used for the Canadian Firearms training purposes .

Ummm I believe Jon is a LEO trying to do someone a favour. I would think the serial has been run and comes up negative hence him trying here for a long shot.

Good on you Jon.
