Welding on a CSA Vz 58 receiver

This thread doesn't make sense.
ALL csa rifles are tapped from the factory for he side mount so I have no idea why you would want to weld anything on to it and if it isn't already tapped then it definitely isn't a csa then

Didn't the old CSA vz.58s come without drilled and tapped holes? For some reason it's in my head that the drilled/tapped CSAs started in the mid-2000s.

I haven't had a drink in three months so could be the delirium tremens talking.

Examined the Bolt carrier again today... it sure looks like its cast just like the receiver :/

I want to chop off the original charging handle and then attach a custom shaped "ak looking" handle much lower and perpendicular to the receiver on the bolt carrier.... this will not only look more AK like, but then will allow room for a modified receiver cover I have planned up that has a built in shell deflector... im thinking ill purchase an ideal shaped bolt from the hardware store, and then drill and tap a hole in the bolt carrier to secure it..... the side mount will be fitted by via bolts as well, since welding on the receiver is now not an option :( after all the pesky metal work is done, and a posp has been mounted, I'll begin to carve out the AKM furniture...

No you are incorrect sir. CZ858 rifles didn't come tapped. New csa rifles only came out 2010ish and they were all tapped to begin with. In fact the first CSA'S to hit the market even came with the scope mount rail installed

Like I said, don't know how that notion got into my head. Must have confused some different rifles from a few years ago. My thanks, sir.

to the op , have you every used brass wire in a wirefeed ?
it might be a option that might work here , assuming the portion of the receiver your welding doesn't need to be heat treated .

I was thinking about running brass wire in the mig.... I was also thinking about brazing... but brazing will risk missing up the tempering of the receiver too much. Im going to drill and tap for now... and if the mount knocks loose from the threads over time, ill then try to mig weld it on with brass wire.-

Any welding or heating on that receiver will have an effect in the heat treatment. Whether its brazing or welding it will effect the heat treatment. My advice ? Drill and tap it. IF you are hell bent on welding on the receiver get someone with a tig welder to do it. I would use a foot pedal and use just enough amperage to get a puddle going and do a couple of VERY short welds. A pro tip : Want to know if your receiver or other metal is weld able ? Light up on it with a tig torch, the puddle should just flow , no spitting or bubbling, just be sure the metal is clean of paint, dirt etc. Do this test somewhere that cannot be seen just in case the material is un weld able.

Oh and that tab on the CSA VZ58's is tig welded ! Or at least it is on mine.

If you want to know how to put the westrifle rail on your csa vz pm me.
Ive done it super easy. If its tapped for there ### little rail even better.

Ill send you measurements, pictures and how to if you want.
