I love fine rust blueing and beautiful walnut as much or more than the next guy, but whenever I head out into the Bush I seem to reach for stainless and synthetic. I guess I’m a wimp. Whenever I see a pic like the one below it makes me feel funny, like climbing the rope in gym class. Let’s see some pictures of your well worn blued rifles that have character and class.

Not sure. I saved it from some thread awhile back. I think I remember somebody saying it was Finn Agaards rifle, but I thought he always used a scope. Seems about right though, being a pre-64 375.

I’ve got pictures of Morris Talifson, Bill Pinnell, and Wally Johnson’s 375’s. There are some well used rifles. Especially Johnson’s. Ironically all these rifles have similar ancestry.

The picture is Finn Aargard's first Model 70 in 375 H&H. His book says had that rear sight made at a shop in Nairobi. His second Model 70, also a 375 H&H, used a Weaver K2.5 - his wife Berit took the 50th buffalo with that apparently original set-up, a few years ago.

I have no problem with a well-worn rifle or shotgun with faded bluing and weathered finish. They are just like an older woman who was once a beautiful girl that grew into a sophisticated lady possessed with invaluable worldly experience.

What really bothers me are newer guns that look like their owner tied a string to them and dragged them though the bush for days.......

My old Win 1894 .32-40 from 1910 shows 'er age, but the bugger still shoots well enough with light, hardcast loads inside 80 yds.

No pics, but I'm a big fan of Winchester nickel steel like faded model 12s and 94s.

I enjoyed the Longmire series on Netflix, he carries a nicely worn 1911 with ivory or stag grips and an old 94
