Good day,

Below please find some photos of a Westley-Richards muzzle loader.

The bore measures about .58 and appears to have no lands. It has a serial number 24 on the side of the Knox form, a Westley-Richards marked lock and a Westley-Richards marked sight leaf.

I sent some photos to Westley-Richards and they scratched their collective head.

They way it is stocked-up, I'm guessing it might date from the 1840s or 1850s.

So, what do I have and what is it worth?

Thanks and cheers!

Dave

It's worth about $50.00 but I'll give you $100.00 to make you feel good. Just kidding of course. Nice looking old gun but I can't help out much cause I know #### squat about it. Someone should be along shortly though. Where did you find it? Regarding the no rifling--perhaps it has progressve rifling??

Looks to be a "volunteer" rifle. Military configuration, privately purchased.
24 bore is .577. Should be rifled, unless it was subsequently smoothbored for use as a shotgun.
Suspect the barrel has been rebrowned.

Measure the bore side to side and vertically; a possibility that it is an oval bore. I would expect about .018" difference between the two dimensions (if it is oval)
