Hey all,

Not sure if this is the right category, but I thought I would let everyone know we have a surplus store opening up again on Front Street! I think I might take the bike down and just have a look.
All are welcome.Westley Military.jpg

Oh man! Great memories! First place I ever bought surplus back in 1995. Still have everything I bought there.

heck I was shopping at westley's place in the mid 80's when i was first getting into paintball..... is it the "Westley"? or a family member reopening the business?
I thought they finally got shut down over some kind of toy pistol that people were converting to fire live ammo???? it was several years back now.

Well, I was only 12 years old back in 1995… :)

Visited and toured the Soviet Submarine that was parked in the Quay across from Westley surplus too. Still have a zippo I bought from the owners after the visit, Foxtrot U521. Bought a huge mess of inexpensive surplus camo netting from Westley right after the tour. If only I had more money back then….

I remember buying SKS stripper clips a year or so after for my bros Type56 SKS, $2 a clip! That’s what I sell them for at shows now!

Good memories.

I used to shop at Westley's all the time in the early 2000s when I lived in Surrey. They had some of the best milsurp clothing around - still have most of it.

If I remember correctly, he was arrested when an undercover RCMP officer went into the store and asked how he could convert a toy? pistol to fire live ammo. Details seemed shady at the time, but I also don't recall the whole ordeal now.

Oh buddy. I toured that sub too with my Scout group. Didn't get to go to Westley's though! Only have one experience with Westley's, went in the mid-2000s. Don't think I bought anything; compared to Dave's up on 12th it felt kinda sketchy and junky to teenage me, but I'm never mad to see a surplus store these days.

Looking on their website I don't see a whole lot of "surplus" there. Just random stuff... like model kits and knives.

Since the new owners bought it around 2010-2015 it’s become 50/50 models, airsoft and new production camo clothes, backpacks. Still some surplus items and clothes but it’s a far cry from how it was at the old location.

Daves was awesome too! Loved my Kalashnikov World Tour Shirt I got from them. ;)

It seems like most surplus stores are just cheap Chinese junk now….

Supply Sergeant is gone now, and Seb Arms has their stuff, some neat stuff out of there the past couple years…. But most good finds are online these days

I remember when it was Westlynn surplus

yup..... packed to the rafters with every kind of camo or uniform, boots and webbing, packs of all kinds..... virtually everything surplus that you could possibly desire.
The first surplus store I went to as a teenager was on king george hwy..... i want to say Pacific Surplus.... the owner was an old hairy dude named allan. I bought a lot of cool stuff from both those stores back in the day. Back when there was lots of wooded areas we could go as groups and play paintball without anyone hassling us.
Our home field was in green timbers park and there were other teams we knew in mission, abbey, chilliwack and white rock and we would all gather at allan's shop and refill our C02 tanks and load up on cases of paintballs. Allen would order all that stuff in for us and order the paintball guns and safety gear whereas westley wasn't really into that so much but he was sure a good source for camo and webbing and later , magazines and ammo for the real firearms. Shame how things turned out for that guy but if the stories are true he was kind of asking for it.

And just up Sixth Ave. one block was the Three story Hobby Shop. And A&B Sound was on the corner. Good times in the ‘80’s

three floors hobbies was like my mecca for years n years LOL as a kid I was deep into model trains and building the layouts and cool stuff....and model rockets...... so much fun was had with those LOL
