Wet tumbling

I think im just filling my tumbler with more water and cases. Iv been doing it this way for quite a few years and am extremly ocd. I would notice if i got peening like some of these pictures.

After I'm done tumbling, I just pour it all through a paint strainer to get rid of the water.

Something like this:

It catches all the casings and the SS Media and lets the liquids drain out freely. The 59 cent solution.

That is a great idea, thanks for the tip.

rip..911> Better question is why you are NOT getting peening. If you read this entire thread you'll see many example of peening on bottleneck cases that will affect precision handloading.

So if you aren't getting peening on bottleneck cases you are either NOT looking hard enough or NEED to SHARE your secret.

I get neck peening but if trimming doesn't remove it, chamfering does.

I air-dry the cases.

Sometimes the brand of pins are the issue but more than likely overloading the tumbler causes peening, I don't have issues with it as I have lots of water and that seems to help

What I've noticed is that its all about ratios..pins vs cases..the more pins you have compared to cases affects peening and cleaning time as well..if I run 4 or 500 hundred cases with 10 lbs of pins I'm usually looking at 2 to 3 hrs of run time..if I run 100 cases with same amount of pins I can clean a batch in an hr easy..

If I'm starting with dirty filthy brass I usually deprime by hand with a Frankford Arsenal hand deprimed..then it goes into the tumbler where I use water and soap..tumble for 20 min to get the dirt loosened up... throw the tumbler into the sink and overflow it with water to wash out most of the dirt and debris... then I will add my lemishine and more soap..tumble for the necessary time. To empty the tumbler I usually pour into a dollar store stainless strainer and rinse everything under hot water to get soap and remaining dirt off the brass and pins..throw into a media separator and spin the pins out..throw cases on a towel to dry, rinse out Tumbler and throw pins back in for the next load..use a magnet to capture all the escapees and clean up the mess..I have started using a rinse pail that contains hot water and some Armor all Wash and Wax in it..I bought some brass from another CGNer here a year ago and its still as bright as the day I bought it..he shared his secret with me and now I've incorporated into my system... dump the cleaned brass into the pail with hot water and Armor all Wash and Wax, let sit for a bit and then remove..water beads right of the cases and seems to speed up the drying time as well

^^^ Thats basically the same method I use, but I'll have to try the final rinse with a bit of liquid wax in it, thats sounds like a great idea, and will most likely act as lube as well to some extent. Its definitely worth trying out.

Yes once to find the right number of cases per batch the peening is minimal if at all
