So now that it is illegal to have too much fun with your Ruger 10/22 what is the go to rifle with the most accessories and 25+ round mags. Or really anything fun to shoot with "High Cap" mags and reliable.

My friend is new to shooting and wants a fun semi.

GSG just released a knock out rifle (GSG-15) and if you can find it when (if) they come up on the EE there's a beauty of a rifle from Anschutz that was a limited run (MSR I think). If you're looking for non-restricted tacticool 22LR those would be worth a look. Otherwise there's always 22LR AR's (M&P 22 comes to mind from Smith & Wesson).

A Mossberg 26b single shot 22 with the proper factory target sights made sometime between 1938-41 that I was given for my birthday. :ar15:

Im still enjoying my 10/22 like i always have. I had the bananna mags for it too.
Years ago i bought 6 10 round mags and used them when we could have the hi-caps.
I cant be the only one who likes the flush fit magazine am I?
The remington 552 speedmaster and marlin 60 are quite nice and dont give you sore thumbs and are faster to load.

Same here. The flush 10 round mag was one of the main reasons I chose the 10/22 so many years ago. No getting it hooked on clothes or branches while hunting. Never bought any 25 rounders. Mag dumps never turned my crank.

It's ironic that I have several modified "tactical style" 10/22s, and if I post a picture of one it would be with a longer high capacity mag, but when I shoot them I have always preferred the BX-10 factory mags. None of the aftermarket mags that I have tried are as reliable as the Ruger mags.

I have a Beretta ARX-160 which is limited to 10 round Beretta mags (because there is a pistol version) but it can also use Colt M4-22 mags that have no capacity limit. While it is uglier than the GSG, it does have the advantage of being able to be completely field stripped with no tools in about 6 seconds and the charging handle can be switched to either side.

It has proven to be extremely reliable and accurate with some ammo (ie: SK Rifle Match)

Remington 597. Picked it up at a gun show. Fun to shoot but needed some tweaking to both the rifle and mags to be reliable. The ten round mag functioned flawlessly but the Remington 30 rnd needed some fine tuning with some sandpaper and lube. Oh and it doesn't fit 30. More like 26 and runs best if you just put in 20. The Promag ran great out of the package with one or two drops of lube.

The rifle was used and needed a good cleaning. I did a quick clean when I purchased it but didn't take the rifle down. After a few fte I realised that it would need a more thorough cleaning and took it completely down and cleaned and sparingly lubed. While apart I polished the guide rods and torqued them according to a information found on the web. Has been reliable now for 150 rnds or so and is very accurate.

Remington 597 and Savage MkII BV bolt action.
I've been having fun with the 597, as I mounted see-tru high rings on it that allow me to use the iron sights at 50 yards, and the 3-9 scope at 100. It fte's every 100 rounds or so with the banana clip, but that is at the worst of times. Shoots great with the 10 rounders. Very accurate gun for a semi.
The Savage just looks great in its Boyds laminate stock and shoots pretty much dead on. mounted a Nikon Rimfire-II 4-12 scope on it, but will be changing out for a 2-7 Nikon P-22 because I want to twist turrets to change the POI to 100 meters from 50, and not rely on the BDC reticle ( I don't like it as much as I thought I would)

That's a beaut, Jay....I have a Mossberg semi from the '60's that I received for my b-day as well....and here's hoping that Glenlivet box isn't empty...

Thanks! And no, the Glenlivet box is not empty, but it is 1 oz lighter... Chuckle

Look into a custom dlask dar22 (10/22 clone) .Super well (Canadian)made and mine has been a great shooter. As for the mags I'll echo what others have said. The 10 round factory mags work really well. I always had jamming issues with the now prohibited 25 rounders I had. The trimag adapters are pretty great to use on the factory ruger mags also.

The "cool kids" at my club's Jr .22 program are shooting a Henry lever rifle. Kid tested and approved. When asked it was pretty much unanimous that they preferred the Henry over the Ruger 10/22.

They've officially shot easily 10 times as much ammo through it than I have. And it's MY rifle! ! !

Henry levers are awesome. Mine sees way more action than any of my other .22 Lr's. Mag tube holds 16 Lr + 1 in the chamber and 22 shorts + 1 in the chamber. Tube is never full for very long hehehe.
