hey all, i know that gun shopping is kinda like buying oil. everyone has their favorite brand, and preference. for me i'm looking for function over beauty, and something that is going to last me a lifetime (which i'm sure most rifles will). i'm going to be hunting with this gun with factory ammo so 1 hole groups arn't expected. by doing some internet scouting i've come up with a few models that are in my price range (600ish). i'm not expecting top of the line...but lets face it $600 is $600 no matter how you look at it and i would rather walk away happy with a gun than thinking i shoulda went for the other one. if anyone would like to add a make or model feel free...or any pros or cons on the models listed. thanks for your time.

And fellow if one of these does not fit the bill then you are very hard to please.

The new Winchester Model 70, in the stainless/synthetic variation. Looks like it will be top notch. Unfortunately it looks like they will retail for about $1100, but you get what you pay for.

I voted for the Tikka but in all fairness if I had the choice I would buy a Winchester M70 Classic or a Ruger MKII before any of the choices you have listed.

I would go for a mauser 98 variant myself. The original Controlled Round Feed.

The CZs are very nice. The Husqvarnas mausers (either a 1600 series or the FN98) at Tradeex Canada are interesting as well.

If I was buying new I'd probably go for a Sako 75 or 85 (Controlled Round Feed), or a CZ 550 (Controlled Round Feed). Other possibilities would be a Remington Model 798, or a Ruger model 77.

The 30-06 I currently own is a Springfield M1903 sporterized.

I think the 116 savage is a good buy . Stainless rifle for $600, how can you go wrong. I don't own any savages, but I hear they are great shooters(accurate). If you don't like the accutrigger, then buy the stevens. On the other hand, for more money, I would buy the tikka. Everything is in the right place for me.
