What 44 mag lever to buy??

I happen to have a JM SS in 44 mag. Very nice lever. But I also have a 45-70, 45 Colt and two 357 marlins as well as a 336 (all remlins) 30-30. I would hate to have to chose one over the other.

I have owned three Rossi's, a Browning, a Marlin, and a Chiappa. They all functioned OK, but preferences lead me to sell the Browning ( well finished and accurate, but only shot well with jacketed bullets because bore was oversize ) and the Marlin ( feeding was fussy, also oversized bore, and handled like a club) one of the Rossi's was a little rough, inside and out, and it went down the road. I kept a Rossi trapper carbine with the bolt mounted safety and replaced it with a peep sight ( wonderful arrangement!) and I settled on the Chiappa as the best of the bunch. Fit and finish are excellent, shoots any ammo including cast bullets well, smooth, balances well with the 20" barrel and feels good in the hand. I know some Chiappas were poorly built in the past, mine is less than three years old and I think they have improved from their past questionable quality control.

I've had the browning 92, the rossi 92 and the chiappa alaskan. The chiappa is the smoothest by far. The takedown is slightly heavier than the other two 92's.

Henry’s mag tub is made from the cheapest, frailest metal they can’t find. It wouldn’t make good lawn furniture, their warranty service is top notch in dealing with it.

Sold the 44 Henry and went to a 357 marlin, superior gun in many ways, but did not feed as smooth as the Henry.

If I were to get a 44 again, it would be an old Browning repro made before the tang safety was added. Second place would be a miroku 1892.

Also my mag tube on my Henry is different then my other one it's stronger and the tube is notched at the front band.. I can't bent it by hand

It will split. It’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when. Mine is/was notched too. It split after 83 rounds fired. I got a new one in short order from the Canadian warranty depot in Ontario at no charge.

FWIW, I found it very hard to bend the tube where it split too. But...it will split. Look on the Henry forums. Many, many have experienced this issue.

I have two of the recent production (2014ish) Miroku/Winchester 1892's in .44 Mag. I think they're one serial # off. Both in short rifle configuration. Yes they have the rebounding hammer, and the tang safety.

I have fired collectively about 500 rounds through both and run them fast (not cowboy action but quick firing Crown land) and they have been flawless. Great fit & finish. Mine are short rifle config.
