What about a petition to make AR's non-restricted?

If AR's were reclassified as non-restricted wouldn't the barrel length need to be 18.5". Anyone running a short barrel PDW build would have to retire their upper for a rifle length if they wanted to be non-restricted. Tuff call :D

There's no reason why we couldn't tackle barrel length silliness at the same time. Not that I think anything ought to be "restricted" to begin with, but the fact that our barrel length limit for Short Barreled Rifles (SBRs) is 18.5" and in the US it's 16" poses a real problem for us as many firearms are manufactured in the US according to their laws, not ours. This means that many common firearms end up being restricted.

Plus, we all know those extra few inches of barrel really don't make much difference in how likely a gun is to be used in a crime anyway. If a criminal really needs the gun shorter they're just going to saw off a chunk of the barrel.

Also... there is the historical angle as well... there are a slew of M1 Carbines out there that are restricted due to having 18" barrels. In fact, the limit was created expressly to try to get rid of M1 Carbines after one was used in a mass shooting in the US. Many of these pieces of history went off the grid when the 18.5" limit went in and were never registered. Has the limit done anything to fight crime? Of course not. But it has made an important part of our history go underground.

I do recognize that from a safety training/proof of competency aspect, handguns are different from long guns, and we need to accept and respect that, but beyond that, a gun should be a gun and you should be able to use any gun anywhere that it's safe to use a gun. A gun should not be classed similarly as a handgun however unless it really IS a handgun. There are handguns that shoot rifle calibers, but an SBR is not a handgun just by virtue of having a short barrel.

I'm wondering. If someone were a single, strong, letter to advance our position on the AR 15. And everyone mailed in a copy to their mp and to the house. Would it be considered a vote by public interest or would an mp just say "whatever, lazy gun owner won't write his own letter."

Reclassification is a simple process obstructed by mere ignorance and lack of knowledge.

Not at this point, it isn't. C-68 enshrined all the previous named prohib/restricted lists done by OIC into legislation. The firearms on those lists cannot be removed now without new legislation being tabled. The outcry from the opposition and anti's would be deafening if the CPC were to bring in legislation to remove guns from those lists. Remember the "machineguns in the streets" bulls**t they pulled with C-301? This would be more hysterical and much louder.

Nope. This is just the beginning.

Amen. Once the snowball starts down the hill it just goes faster and faster, running over everything in its path. Especially anti's. :D

Yep, but that would at least be semi-intelligent to classify them according to technical specifications and not emotional hysteria. Not that I think we should have classifications at all, but doing them strictly according to technical specs is at least impartial and shows some level of intelligence and logic to the process. What the RCMP do now exhibits none of the above.

i like the get rid of att i would get a restricted class license if i could use it outside of the range. as yet i am non restricted only but i am thinking i want the full meal deal now. i am jealous of all the beautiful handguns i have seen on here.

If you don't already have your RPAL, do it. The more RPAL holders there are, the harder it is for the government to ignore us. I firmly believe that is the reason why we have two types of licenses, to keep the restricted owners marginalized and our numbers low. If there was only one license, many of those hunters/farmers/etc. might get the idea to try handguns or black rifles and that would be counterproductive to the civilian disarmament agenda.

That's why I'm a proponent of the barrel length change. Both for semi-autos and pistols. Bringing it back to 4 inches for pistols would be a great change. 16 or even 14 inches for semi-auto center-fires would be awesome, but I'd rather go with OAL.

Remember 4.14 was chosen over 4 for pistols to ban a huge amount of pistols that had 4 inch barrels. The same could be said for semi-autos. (The m1 carbine comes to mind.)

How about a drive for CGNers to get RPALs? I don't have mine. That's one thing we can do on this site.

We are alowed to transport restricteds to RCMP stations right? We could meet in the parking lot of one in each major city throughout the country. How could you possibly organize that?

This is literally the worst suggestion I have ever read on CGN.

Congrats

I'm pretty sure that is the quickest way to have ARs prohibited and confiscated. But I could be wrong.. :onCrack:

So criticizing other people's ideas is helpful to the cause? Nice contrabution. Wasn't even really my idea in the first place.

Yes it is, when the ideas are as ####ing stupid as that one.

maybe another idea would be to have 4 classifications. have 1.non-restricted (rifles and shotguns) 2. registerd rifles( any semi auto or rifle that is to short AR,M1,camp guns. but you can still buy with normal pal but the gun would be registerd like we do now.) 3. restricted handguns. 4. prohib.

would u go for that?

There is no need for registration! It's useless. Registration or not, as long as guns are around, bad People will kill innocent people and the people who get punished for this are us law abiding citizens. Take away guns and people will still kill other people but with bows or spears or swords or knives or even vehicles.

In Japan and England where civilian handgun ownership is not allowed the criminals still carry. Turns out criminals don't obey the law...

Exactly, perfect example. I believe even the police aren't alowed to carry. All they have is a baton to use agains criminals with guns. Brilliant!

The ONLY reason for registration is CONFISCATION. Suggest you start reading the legalese and articles forums to learn more about the antis agenda.

Well we have had handguns registered since like the 30's and we started a long gun registry that is now over turned and no one got there guns taken away what are you worried about? your just paranoid.

look every one knows about the gun lobby. they would have every gun banned and have no more jails and every one would live happy just smokeing weed and singing john lennon songs.
dont worrie about them. i understand what you are saying but we beat them. there is no threat to our guns right now.
i'm just trying to think of ways that we can all be safe and keep guns away from criminals and some people who shouldent have guns. there has to be a law.

Man you are ####in dumb. In 2006 the liberal platform was to ban all handguns. What do you call 12.6 prohibited handguns?? That is confiscation, it is just slow.

On a side note, your posts are gold for the CGN dumbest posts of the year thread.
