I going to start buying parts for another .338 LM and want your suggestions which action to use. Rifle will be a single shot. I want a strong action with min .750 bolt with smooth reliable extraction. Availbility in Canada would be a plus as would parts for it if I ever had problems. I like the Surgeon you don't have to buy a picatini rail and the lug is part of the action. Any suggestions?

I think Robertson can also still get the Stiller action?

The Barnard is a beautiful action and the trigger that comes with it is first rate.

I bought mine a year ago this month. I assume he's still importing them. Either action would be an excellent choice. If/when I ever build another custom, I think I'd like to try a Barnard next time with a Robertson stock.

Stiller Tac 338 single shot. Great price and a top quality action.

Call Robertson Composites, great service and easy to deal with.

We have one single shot Twolf sitting here we can part with for $1600.00 including scope rail and trigger guard. It needs to be engraved still. Made right here in our own facility...

Major diameter is 1.162X16TPI. Bolt is .750 diameter. A 1.3" shank blank should be utilized...

We use Nesika, Stiller, BAT, Surgeon and have converted several Rem 700s and soon will have our own actions on the market.
For the single shot Nesika or BAT may an option to look at

I thought BAT was out of the picture because of Government red tape? Is Nesika back on the rails again?

What I would and did look for when looking to buy my action was that the port was large enought to eject a live round if it didn't go off for some reason. Also easy of cleaning. Looking back now, I think any action with the correct bolt face would have done the job depending on how pretty you want it to be. In the end it's more so boils down to how it's put together then what type of action it is. Everybody's budget is different but I'd probably buy a Stiller because of the replaceable rail for added MOA later down the road, the larger port with the 'V' cut. The bolt handle is generous but lightweight. The manufacturer seems to have his sh!t together in terms of build quality and the way he ships them is impressive also. They don't just come in an oily bag like some other manufacturers I know. That's how you get a Norc, not a $2200 action. Shame on those guys.

Are you kidding me?

I would be more than a little upset to receive $2,200.00 worth of action jewelry in a plastic bag!

Yeah, at least Stiller uses a high strength cardboard box with form fitting foam inserts. I was pleased as punch with that. At least they cared enough to protect the action in a reasonable manner.

Wow, an oily plastic bag? How...under whelming. My pride of ownership would take a hit after that. lol

Try going through a couple actions on 2 different guns because someone doesn't like splurging on the good steel. They're lucky they are in the states.
