what are 5 main things to do to maintain a semi auto shotgun

This is too cold to shoot???

I can't wait to hear about your first morning in a duck blind, or on a deer stand. :)

also lots to know and the consequences for being naive are serious.

still need to get informed and up to speed.

whats the rush!!! i get a rush just looking at the gun. wonder how it will feel shooting it.

can you handle your gun on your property outside and inside as long as their is a trigger guard on it.

it would be nice to practise with the loading and trigger with snap caps. and just practise using it learning stances and positions or is this illegal. can the neighbours call the cops and i get charged?

depends on the gun...if its a remington semi, there will be some o-rings etc. in the gas system that should be prevented from drying out.
if its a fine italian model like a benelli....no real maintenance

O-rings and other gaskets are very often overlooked, and when lubed try to avoid petroleum-based products. Rubber will often break down faster when covered in petroleum based oils. I use a silicone lube on all gaskets, rubber or not.

Trigger guard? All of my firearms have built in trigger guards. Perhaps you are referring to a trigger lock. None of my non restricted firearms have ever had a trigger lock on them, and they won't as long as I own them. As to handling your firearm in your home, of course you can, how else would you clean it or adjust the trigger? As to being outside on your property, with your firearm, that depends on where you live, and what local bylaws may be in effect.

You do have your PAL correct???

going to wait for a sale to buy ammo. don't have a safe for that yet. have one for the gun but not the ammo. put a trigger lock on it and put the gun in the safe. should i clean it? Martin, the supplier ran 10 rounds through the gun. not sure if he cleaned it after. going to let the gun sit for a few weeks or so, until the sale at sail starts. apparently there is a sale at sail just before turkey season opens so……… even the cleaning kit i want to try and get the sale but if you guys say its important to clean it right away then i'll go do that.

Manufacturer does that.......Supplier doing that sounds fishy to me.

You don't know Martin then.

Martin tests a huge percentage of the guns he brings in. Especially if a customer is even a bit concerned. He handles all of the warranty work for what he sells, because of the issues getting things back and forth to point of manufacture. He has a vested interest in making sure the guns run right when they arrive in the customer's hands.

grelmar, yes, i totally agree. Martin has been a class act all the way through. now i just need to know how to take apart the gun properly because no manual was given. i'll figure it out using the internet. J Mitchell has done a few nice threads on the CGN
