What are our reasons for wanting handgun hunting?

I'm not sure if BC regs say your not allowed to carry a .22 rifle when hunting big game? If there such a law it should be scrapped. I'm all for using the appropriate firearm to harvest game of all sorts. I can walk through the woods anytime of year with w/e rifle/rifles I choose. It's going to be pretty hard to prove I'm deer hunting, its not like I ever get one anyway! :cool:
 
Bad back. Don't really want to carry a rifle around on it all day.
Rifle slings are lopsided, like guitar straps, hard on the back, gets in the way of a pack.

because I'll have my 300wm for deer with me, it is much better at taking big game, pg 19 in the regs doesn’t say you can't have a 22lr with you, it just say you can't hunt big game with one with makes sense since it's under powered to take big game effectively..

They don't have to. The onus is on you. I know a group that was coyote hunting last fall and were charged for hunting with rifles, as there was a deer muzzleloader season open. One fellow challenged it, and the judge upheld the charges, which will happen 99% of the time.

This would be the #1 reason that should be given to get people used to handguns and the fact they can have a usefulness for hunting,if it ever comes to the discussion. Keep in mind there are many hunters in Canada that see handguns as evil. Sad but true.
Don't think for a minute that any department would pass a regulation allowing a full blown handgun hunt on big game for the inaugural season.
In some European countries it's legal to carry a rimfire handgun for dispatching wounded animals and their general handgun laws are more restrictive than ours. Two that come to mind are Sweden and Germany.
 
Also, I wouldn't nessessarily want to depend on a judge to rule in my favor with regards to finishing off big game with a rimfire. It is against the law to shoot big game with a rimfire after all.

A simple change in regulation under the respective province's Wildlife Act would be all that is necessary to make it a legality. The big hurdle is convincing the bureaucrats and general public of why it's necessary.
 
i really dont like the no rimfire rule it should say no .17 or .22 rimfire(.32 and .38 rimfire too) beause .41 swiss rimfire at close enough range is good on deer id think a .56-56 spencer would do the job too(there is way of making reloadable cases for it)

My vote is for a short-barreled .32 or .25 sidearm. :yingyang:
 
of corse i would love a .22 revolver for squirrel and rabbit ( .25-20 revolver would be nice but you know them evil baby killing .25's :p )

id also love a suppressor for pest but that is too far fetched (thats why i got the metrogun shotgun barrel extension with subsonic buckshot at close range it does the job on coyotes)
 
I think you should be able to hunt with a handgun,If the caliber is up to the job.
I also think on your own land you should be able to pack one for your own protection.
I have 160 acres close to the B.C border in north central AB.I have lots of bears in the area mostly the big brown type.
I have did alot of fencing (tearing out and replacing) the quad and rifle are 200 yds away so it would be nice to carry a stout handgun for protection.

Well, that is spelled out in the ON regs.

Ontario Small Game Regulations
Firearms
If you are hunting small game in an area where there is an open season for deer, moose, elk, or black bear, you may not possess or use a rifle of greater muzzle energy than 400 foot-pounds or shells loaded with ball or with shot larger than No. 2 shot (or if using non-toxic shot, you may not use steel shot larger than triple BBB steel shot, or bismuth shot that is larger than double BB bismuth shot), unless you possess a valid licence to hunt deer, moose, elk or black bear as the case may be.

Don't see anything that indicates you couldn't have a .22 along with the appropriate deer/moose/elk/bear gun.
 
Judging from the accuracy demonstrated by the handgun shooters at my local range, I think handgun shooting would be an excellent conservation measure.
 
I have no reason because my slingshot works perfectly! My slingshot is lighter, very quiet, less expensive, more challenging, shoots very accurate amd have been very successful with it . So why in the hell would I need a handgun?:rolleyes:
