What are our reasons for wanting handgun hunting?

thick brush in northern ontario handguns would be nice easier to swing around and of corse its harder to do.
^^^^^The question would be, which one are you shooting deer with? It would be the same line of reasoning that says you cannot even have lead shotgun shells in your possession while hunting migratory game birds. I don't know of any big game regs that allow you to carry a rimfire while big game hunting.

-lighter gun makes long walks easier, and makes longer walks possible.
-allows a backpack to be worn without pushing a rifle off your shoulder.

I'd carry a one of my .22s for ruffies and other birds while useing a rifle for big game. I suspect I'd at least pop a few deer for novelties sake, since I have them anyway.
Houndsmen would find a use for treed animals. Handgunners would welcome a chance to use their weapon of choice.
Some will hunt with the handgun for its higher difficulty level, and others will do it because they want to and just offer the difficulty thing as a reason.Nothing wrong with that.
There's bit of paradox to the difficulty thing anyway; there's 1000 ways to make hunting harder and less effective but guys are pretty selective about the "difficulty factor" they want. Hunting in piss poor areas, or barefoot, or in a Santa Claus suit in the desert would certainly be difficult but lack any popularity at all. On the otherhand, hunting deer in concentrated areas with a string gun over an oat pile might make the hunter feel like one of the elite while remaining about as hard as kicking yote#### down the road. Nothing wrong with that either.

I don't know of any big game regs that say I can't. So I can't carry a judo point when hunting big game with a bow for small game because their are broad head requirements in my province?

Seems stupid and dangerous to me to dispatch a mortally wounded animal with a large bore rifle from a matter of a couple feet. A ricochet would be deadly, and how many of us have stood around and watched someone do just that?
Far more sense to use a small, short range handgun, like a .32 or .38.
As to actual hunting with a handgun, Give me a bfr in 450marlin or even 3030 I can wear in a holster on my hip leaving both hands free for scrambling through bush/over rough terrain and you can count me in on handgun hunting!
One winter when son and I were particularly practiced up we were shooting respectable groups from my 357 from 75 yds off a sandbag. I see no reason with some practice shooting game from 40-50 yds couldn't be done with a suitable round.

Reason 1:Hand gun hunting makes less noise than cannons and I.E.D.s
Reason 2:Hunters with physical disabilities.
Reason 3:If it hurts no-one, and is humane, why not? Do golfers justify the club they use?

A farmer might be out on his fields, perhaps riding a tractor, perhaps mending fences, and spot a coyote eyeing his sheep. It used to be that he would wear a handgun when he started losing livestock. Carrying a rifle is too slow to get a shot off.
How much does the government spend reembursing farmers for lost livestock? Is it enough?
